This is really getting on my nerves. I'm about to put linux on my laptop.

Anyway, about half the time I connect to a wireless or wired network, vista displays the network as "local only" and won't allow me internet access. I've tried dozens of things to solve this...deleting network profiles, deleting the route in dos, resetting the adapter and resetting the notebook, with varied success. Nothing seems to ever work 100%, I'll just try everything on a long list in order to get it to work, which can take upwards of 20 minutes and 10% of my battery, on occasion.

Does anyone know a fix for this? Something I'm doing wrong?

is there connection software on your laptop that is controlling the wireless? sometimes that connection software will interfere with regular network setup

No, it's a Sager, there's none of that nonsense on it. Just uses the Intel driver.

Have you tried updating the driver?

Newest driver. Lots of other people with vista encounter this issue, i've just never seen a solution for it.

I had a similar problem with my Toshiba laptop... but it was due to 3rd party software, not drivers or Vista. It's been so long now since I've had the issue that I don't even remember the root cause.

I get this when the signal is very weak, and for a few moments after connecting sometimes and then invariably 'internet and local' will appear, usually in less than sixty seconds. Also a Toshiba laptop. Mildly annoying and I seriously doubt this is unique to Vista.
