Hey,
I'm trying to get WinVista Ultimate 64bit to join my PDC
which is running on slackware 12.1.0, Samba 3.0.32 and OpenLDAP 2.4.11.
Everything seems to be configured correctly server side, however when I goto join the domain it returns an error:
"Your computer could not be joined to the domain becaus the following error has occurred:
The procedure number is out of range"
it authenticates my username and password, I have even tried it with a user/password that does not exist and it tells me the credentials are invalid.. So I'm not considering this a problem?
I've done the hkey edits to 0. I'm not sure what else to try. I'm not sure it's because the system I'm trying to connects architecture is greater than that of the servers (64bit->32bit).
I can however Join the workgroup just can't join the domain. This is making me highly perturbed
Any solutions?

ok, never mind ^ -- I got it to log into the domain. (now) -- I suppose this roaming profile.V2 doesn't work well with Samba either > ? I feel by the time I get this figured out, I too, will be an IT guru. (not really but whatever). Anyways, I'm going to test XP against my domain today to see if it'll load profiles or not. I realize this is probably old news to some of you, due to demands and what you have to know. But anyways, if anyone has any information on what sambas Config should look like to support .V2 profiles, I would greatly appreciate it.
I've been looking into a similar problem on a larger scale recently (university computer science department). In my lab I have some machines that dual boot Ubuntu (some x86, some x86_64) and XP (x86) and some that dual boot Ubuntu (some x86, x86_64) and Vista Business (x86). The lab's Network Info Service (NIS) server for Linux clients also serves as the source for some Network File System (NFS) directories. As well as those directories on the lab's NIS server, we also mount students' department account homes using samba mount on the same boxes. That's all dandy (mostly). The XP machines in the lab are running the SFU 3.5 (or older) to mount the Samba shares (I'm assuming).
However, now I am faced with the problem of mounting these Samba shares on the Vista Business machines and as far as I can tell without shelling out some additional $$ for the new SFU packages - called SUA there is no way for me to do this as only Vista Enterprise and Ultimate include this package in the OS.
Please correct me if I'm wrong on this and there is an easy way for me to mount these directories on Vista Business...
I have the same problem... I was able to join the domain on a Linux box running Debian,as a PDC with Samba 3.02 from a laptop computer running Vista Ultimate but then when I reboot I cannot log in. I get the message "the procedure number is out of range" What did you do to be able to log in? I have tried many solutions and nothing seems to work? Your help would be very much appreciated!
What did you do to get past the "procedure number is out of range" message?
