I read over the last two days a number of different rumors all pointing that the next big Mac OS is going to be an OS that can run on any and all PC's. My biggest gripe with the Mac OS has been the fact it will only run on certain types of Hardware and most of that Hardware is subpar and three times more expensive than it should be. I'm not saying all but most. Another problem I have with the Mac is that they kind of lie. If hardly anybody used your OS, it only ran on selected amount of equipment, and you tested your highest end product against your weakest opponent then sure you wouldn't have viruses, you would be faster, and be more reliable.
If OS 10 does come to a PC near you the first thing that it would get hit by is a mass of Virus attacks. It would be tested in a way that Windows has been for the last 20 years in ways it could never dream. Maybe OS 10 could live up to it's security hype and if it does then that security hype would be warranted. Right now it isn't.
Reliability would become something we would really get to test. How does the Mac OS do on this configuration and this one and this one? We could really begin to see how stable the OS really is compared to Windows Vista. Right now we can't because OS 10 can't or won't run on 1/100th of the machines that Windows can. That's a serious problem when trying to test performance. The Mac OS is specifically geared to run excellent on just a limited amount of hardware while Windows is made to try and run good on everything. Try and put OS 10 on just any type of Hardware and the OS simply won't run. Windows on the other hand probably will.
So if OS 10 does come I'll welcome it with open arms. It has some major hurdles to cross but they can be crossed but it won't be easy.
They talked a pretty big talk.
I don't see them being able to walk the walk but that's me.

I can't imagine Jobs doing this. But maybe. If you can but the OS for say, $150, and throw it on a cheap PC he's going to have to sell massive amounts of the OS to make up for all the Macs he doesn't sell. And does he really want to try to support ten zillion apps and hardware like windows?

Where are you reading this?

No, I can't imagine Jobs doing this either. There is just to many hurdles to cross.
