My father-in-law has access to wifi internet at the development in which he lives. The problem is he is over 1000feet from the transmitting antenna. I am going to build or buy him a receiving antenna to mount on his house that should help to catch the signal. The other problem is to get a good clear line of site I need to place the antenna about 50ft from the computer.

What is the best way to achieve this? I can get 16’ cables and hook them together but I would think there is a better way.

Thanks

USB cables use thin wires. there will be too much resistance.

if you want to try it, cut 1 usb wire and splice in some thicker wire for the 50'

but I think this whole thing is doomed to fail.

sounds like you need a repeater or the like.

That's seems to be the overwhelming advice. I found USB 2.0 Repeater cable 16' for $9.00. 2-3 of these should do the trick with out any creative wiring.

Thanks

Will do. Do you know or know anyone that knows anything about WIFI antennas? I have found a cantenna, a strainer antenna and one thing about a WIFI antenna using a satellite dish.

Thanks
