Hello, i recently purchased the processor e6420 and managed to ovrclock it to 3.4 ghz.

It is working ok, and i downloaded an asus tool that gives various temperatures which i dont know how to interprate.

cpu = 35 celcius
motherboard = 28 celcius

are these temps too high?

also if i can ask, i have corsair xms2 ram. 2 1 gig sticks. offically theyre timed at 5-5-5-12 but i changed it to 4-4-4-12.

it all working ok, however when i try to increase the memory speed i get an error. warning* message in the bios.

currently the memory speed is 800 , is that ok? or would i be better off overclocking it and if so how would i go about it.

cheers

Impressive temp for the stock cooler you must be on an air controlled room or low temp area

I recommend getting a brand cooler I personally use the Zalman 9700 it goes around for like 50-70dlls i got mine on ebay refurbish for 37dlls it works great my lowest temp is 18c and it never gets hier than 34c under load

that would extend the life of your OCed processor but still with the stock cooler those are nice temperatures

QUestion.

I just orderd an e6420, I am planning to use the stock cooler as well. What FSB do you run to get 3.4ghz??

What is the multiplier for the 6420 and is the multiplier unlocked or locked?

Its been a long time since I've attempted an overclock or even purchased a CPU with overclocking in mind.

Realisticly, does the 6420 normally OC very well?
I am going to have an EVGA i680 LT motherboard

EDIT

I just noticed you sig and it show 8x375

But, should I be able to do at least 2600 no problem?? Thats at least my minimum goal I want to obtain.
