So i formatted my computer the other week, and what do you know? I have the strangest problem ever! The problem seems to lie with avi encoding. The problem started like this, i installed this really old game that used avi encoding for ingame movies. The game obviously crashes when i started it up because the computer couldn't play the starting movie. So i browsed into the game's folder and found the files manually. As soon as i clicked on the avi file, explorer.exe crashed ( lol ). I found some topics related to this issue, but i still couldn't fix it. So i opened up google and downloaded all these fancy codec packs which are over 50 megs each (i never had to this in previous installs, and everything worked fine), and got to the point where i could play the file (outside of the game that is) by opening through a video player (not clicking on the file). I have actually ordered vista ultimate and it's on it's way atm, but i would really like to see what this prolem is about as its really strange, i never heard of anything like this (plus i really want to play throu Final Fantasy 7 again).

If the game is real old you may need to run it in compatability mode eg win 2000 or ME.
Ive only had to do it once but it worked well
