Lately, my windows clock doesn't show tick marks for every minute.
This is what it used to look like

Can anybody tell me how to get my tick marks back or explain what could have caused it?
I did recently upgrade my 15" CRT for a Dell 22" E228WFP LCD monitor. Could this have something to do with it?

I honestly have never seen anything like this before.

My suggestion, hit ok and be done with it. haha.

did you install any service packs or use windows update? I know they did a recent update to fix the daylight savings time date. Perhaps that was it. No idea though. Kind of a weird thing to ask, I mean most people look at that once in a xp install lifetime. To set the date.

thanks for your input. I update xp all the time and i look at the settings coz i synch the clock to the time server on a regular basis - that's how come I noticed it.

I realize that this is not a common issue, so I'm thrilled that you replied.

I think I may have found out what is causing it, but I need your help to fix it. If I set my screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 or smaller, the tick marks come back. If I set it higher, the tick marks disappear.

Do you guys think it's a Windows XP bug, an Nvidia bug, or Dell monitors just can't display the tick marks at such a high resolution? (The native resolution is 1680 x 1050).

Any help is much appreciated!

ive just checked mine, and i dont see the minute points either and im running at 1680*1050, but like cranbers said, just hit ok and ignore it, i would of never have noticed if you hadnt came here and asked lol. and that would only be the 2nd or third time in my lifetime looking at that screen once the time is set its set doesnt really need to be synced if you really want to sync it why dont you just set it to auto?

just click the "Internet Time" tab and put a tick in the "automatically sync with an internet time server"

P.S

i just checked with a lower resolution and they came back....

i can quite happily conclude that its a problem with the way those dots would be worked out, they probably take the screen resolution and circumference of the clock then are shared by 60 with a dot put in place every 1, obviously the calculation must return 0 when an odd resolution like 1680*1050 is used, it was probably only programmed with 4:9 or 16:9 screens in mind, whereas we run at a 16:10 resolution.

Thanks for checking. It's good to know that I'm not the only one it happens to.

I find that auto sync doesn't sync frequent enough for my liking. And I know that I can edit registry entries to change to frequency but that's too much effort!

Microsoft should release a patch for this because that's just poor, if what you say is true about how the dots are calculated.
