Hey there,

Just got a (little) question here. I'm owning a pc so don't take this message as another apple fan (no really I'm not) that is feeling attacked by a site that only likes to write negative news about Apple leaving the good news behind. I just like to see what you people all think about this subject. Sure Leopard for example can't be 100% perfect in the first stage....hell no it sure has mistakes as they also just like Microsoft had to meet their release date. But when you compare Leopard to Vista and it's problems....hell Apple allready updated the firewall problems so I wonder why Tomshardware is complaining about this at all. This is not an attack on Tomshardware as I've been reading their benchmark tests (what they do best) for a long time but atm I'm getting a little confused about their meanings with Apple. Constantly putting in the bad news about apple while Vista is a whole lot worse when it comes to problems but you hardly read anything about that on this site. I wonder why that is. Europe allready made Microsoft pay a large bill for their monopoly games. I noticed that Tomshardware also wrote negative about this charge on Microsoft while in fact I think it's good that finally somebody stood up against Microsoft that is making a whole circus out of it. Like hell....let the people choose what they want to install on the pc they buy. Linux for example is also a very good choice for people who are not addicted game fanatics. People play WoW on Linux and other games. Works perfectly via Wine.
MAC OSX ain't that bad also....I've seen it at a friends place. Even better, John Carmack (THE inventor of light in 3d gaming or games like quake 3 etc) has made an engine called IDTECH 5 (super creative engine for artists) that will run perfectly on a mac (seen on the demonstration) without porting....hell the engine saves the game automaticly to windows/mac osx/and consoles. And you know what...this engine is so good looking it does not even need DX10. Seriously I don't get it. Five months ago I saw some movie on tomshardware telling that Macintosh is so bad when it comes to games...they promise this the promise that....well hello...I dont know if you guys are awake but I think you should open your eyes a bit more. John Carmack will proof it for ya with their first game called Rage. Next thing is for example Gears of War. Hey that's not IDTECH 5 engine is it? No it is not...but it does run smooth on a mac with a good graphics card. Sure I agree...there are graphics cards out there that are not totally capable of playing heavy graphic loads. But nowadays things are different. But when you run Crysis on Windows....yes also something I read on Tomshardware....it runs like 20 FPS on a 19 inch screen.....good luck.
Anyways, I'm not a Vista hater and not an Apple lover. I am just being realistic like a good review site should be......in every platform out there are mistakes being made.....but what kind of mistakes.....and most important....how fast are these mistakes being fixed. Check snale Microsoft fixing their problems (is that because there are too many?). And even more important...bashing Apple for whatever reason or also giving Apple some credits even if they are becoming more and more populair than ever before thx to Vista? Leopard just comes in one standard edition...not like different editions like for example Vista ultimate bug with an insanely high (yes again) price tag. YEs Mac is pretty expensive too when you buy hardware. ;) I agree. I hope I won't get negative messages now from people who can't afford a Macintosh so they might as well say it's bad while in fact it's (except a very few instead of hundreds) spyware/malware/virus/trojan free. You need a password to install anything on a mac and I think that's a good protection system. Never heared that >>>good<<< news from Tomshardware did ya. Sorry Tomshardware...again this is not ment as an anti Tomshardware message....it's just reality. Get real. Maybe it's time to also highlight a few good points about the Mac? Or is this a mission of War? Hope it's not about money like Microsoft pays me money not to bash them and Apple won't. If I made some errors in my point of view I'd like to hear it. thx.

ps: Don't you think it's a good thing that XP is also able to run on a Mac (Leopard)? Yeah, another non bad thing about a Mac but.....

ps2: Excuse me for my bad English.

Honestly, I'm too lazy to read the whole thing entirely. From what I got out of what I scanned through was that you are annoyed that Toms is giving Apple a hard time while taking it easy on MS correct?

Maybe Toms is being harder on Apple because Vista is not as some people think. You talk about "problems" with Vista, but I'm interested in what those problems are? I hear people complain all the time about how lousy Vista is, but I have had absolutely no problems with it. From what I've gathered from here in the forums, there is a large number of people that complain about Vista that don't use it themselves. Everyone just parrots what they read from their favorite website.

Crysis running at 20 FPS is not Microsoft's fault, it's the game developers fault. They created a game that even the latest hardware is not capable of running at high resolutions.

I really don't care what anyone says about either OS, it's not other's experiences that matter to me, it's my experiences that count. The only reason that I bought Vista is to see if it was as bad as everyone makes it out to be, and I have to admit, it's been great for me. I don't own a mac, so I can't really say anything good or bad about it.

I might be coming off as a MS fanboy, but I could give two **** weather or not MS lives up to everyones standards. The only thing that bugs me is people bitching about things that they have never experienced themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not directing anything towards you, I'm just trying to throw another perspective on the subject of OS bashing.

Well, maybe you do like Vista that much...even that much that you haven't noticed yet that your system is allready running way slower that it was once you've bought it. It sure looks sweet with all the eyecandy....makes you wanna forget and forgive. You could also do a register (I know registers suck n1 Microsoft problem) check cause maybe there is allready dirt in it without you having noticed. Oh yeah, also something that had not worked out for Vista.....It's still not Virus-Spyware/Malware/Spam proof like Leopard/Linux is. Maybe you should do a scan just in case and hope it will detect all of it if you wanna agree with me on this that is ;). Let's not start about cookies right? I don't get it what you find so great about the worst irritating things that could happen inside an OS. Sure it's working just fine but in the meantime....and for how long. Nah, for some people Vista will never be bad nomatter what. Are those the people that maybe spend money on Vista a bit to soon without doing their homework first while trying to talk their way out of all the Vista problems people are facing? And believe me...maybe people have tryed it as Vista comes standard with nowadays pc's right? You can try it in almost every store but once they bought it they quickly install XP again. As for DX10....nice feature but ID Software has proven that DX9 is still standing strong with their great IDTECH 5 engine that will bring us again many quality games in the near future comming from different game developing companies. I wonder what Microsoft thinks about that as DX10 was one of their tricks trying to get gamers to spend a lot of money for Vista. It's just another reason to buy Vista. Still....I'm not anti Vista. You might be a lucky that you are the only one not being affected by spyware/viruses/slower running machine/software instability/driver problems.....shall I go on? Nah, better not as again some people will never agree that many other people DO have these problems even after the long awaited update.

lmao very cool video indeed Stemnin. Wouldn't that be something.....Apple and Microsoft becomming friends :P The only thing Im actually complaining about is....let it be their fight. But now Tomshardware is picking sides also while in fact it would be much better to have more operating systems getting a chance of competing with Microsoft. We will only benefit from it. See it like AMD vs Intel. We get cheaper pricing. ;) hehe

So you see me as someone trying to be a troll....thx for not knowing me in such a short time. Guess that I might as well say that's the main reason why you dont understand why people complain about Vista except you. I'm sure you knew vista 2 minutes after your installed it telling everyone how great it really is. :) same deal. Fair enough.

Maybe it does seem like Trolling and it wasn't really ment that way. Srry bout that if I went to far. ;) Some people are like Vista is all heaven...nothing bad about it....it's almost like they are doing a Steve Ballmer commercial.
Maybe it would be a good idea to keep Vista and MAC OSX seperated? Like if Tomshardware makes a MAC OSX section on this forum so people can at least discuss the attacks Tomshardware trows at Apple. Some things are true but some things are a bit overreacted and I see hardly any good news about Apple on this site while it does have it's pro's.

With all the claims of Apple goodness, it still claims less than 8% of the market per their own PR reports with the other competitor, Linux, taking about 25% of the marketplace. That leaves Windows as the majority of the market, split between about 85% of that Windows market being XP and 12% being Vista. The Vista number will grow slowly over time with new PC sales even if no other development occurs on Vista. However, Apple has not been able to capture more than 15% of the market for over a decade, even with OSX promises. Really, Apple enthusiasts have their areas of the Internet but they have little market appeal for the masses to justify their own section on most serious Internet sites.

When Tom's Hardware first came about back in 1997 era, Mac's weren't popular by any means.

Tom's Hardware was originally aimed at the computer enthusiasts who wanted to over clock, have the latest, greatest, best combinations. Macs are Macs; you get what you get and that's it.

Over the course of time, Mac and Linux has become more of a viable solution against Microsoft Windows. Macs still do not get too much of an option to customize them, thus a lot of Mac readers didn't view Tom's Hardware.

The name alone says it: Tom's Hardware. Hardware is known in the PCs, not cookie cutter Macs. So, the site is tailored to the larger viewing group. Linux should have a largest section; it does not. Why? The website originally in its creation didn't bother with Linux talk.

The major viewing base is for Windows and the hardware required for that. As time has allowed, Tom's has moved from a hardware Niche into software, games, Linux, devices, etc. The field of vision has changed to say the least.

Fair and clear answer....thx :) I think it would be better for Toms HARDWARE not to be talking about LEOPARD anymore ;) Orselse they should at least create a temporary LEOPARD section. People who do read such articles and have totally different oppinions can at least share it with people who now think LEOPARD sucks while in fact it does not suck at all. It's offcourse pure business...they do what's best for them...I understand that and Agree with that. But bashing on Software as a HARDware site like you explain it while not giving people the chance of correcting some statements is very cheap for a site of this size.

Part of it could also be Apple censoring critics on their sites and deleting references to articles written on the tom's hardware site.

I have to agree with the above though, i've been running on vista since before the public launch (kudos to msdn) and have it at home and work. The only problem i had with it is that Kensington doesn't seem like they're ever going to make a driver for my bluetooth plug (jerks :) ) and that I had to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for hp to create a driver for my plotter. That's it. No other issues to me. It also wouldn't run the company database out of the box because MICROSOFT had yet to update the sql engine for vista at the time of release. I hate our database so I considered it a win-win :)

What people don't seem to want to accept with vista is that Microsoft is obsoleting some things. They said before it's release that not everything will run on it, and people throw fits when something doesn't. This is sort of like the move to 386 way back when (i know, it makes me old) - people whined at the opposite, they couldn't put new stuff on the old machines. Well, it was made known before the release....

Two things that hack me off:

1. Commercials where you say: The other guy sucks, use me. (i'm looking at you apple for your latest leopard ads). Companies that pull that lose any chance of my business.

2. People who whine that Windows isn't as error free as MacOS. Guess what? If microsoft ran windows and it's compatibility like apple does for macs, they have been obliterated by the justice department. And as an aside, if virus and spyware makers decided to take on apple as much as they do windows, they be just as infectible. There is no full proof system if you constantly innovate. Virus makers aren't wasting there time with niche products.
