Hi all,

I'm putting a new box together and plan to be running Vista 64bit.
It will primarily be used for video editing and misc computer use.

System specs - for now...
Core 2 Quad Q6600
Asus P5N32-E nForce 680i SLI
Vigor Gaming Monsoon II Lite
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 512MB
4 x 320 GB harddrives in RAID 0+1
500 GB Data harddrive
2 x LiteOn LH-20A1H
1200 Watt ToughPower
NZXT Zero Full Tower Case.

Should I put in 4 or 8 GB of RAM?

4 Gig will be plenty.

4 unless your doing like super high intensive tasks in which case you would know how much you need. So yes 4 is plenty

I would say that the safest way is 2 stick of 2GB. So if needed, just add more.

Do not buy something if you will not use it! (unless you have plenty of money to spend) :)

For video editing, are you guys on crack, or have you just never done video editing?

Mr. Q,
If you are doing anything beyond hobby level, I'd get as much as you can. 8GB can quickly become limiting if you are working with RAW video footage, especially anything at higher resolutions.
Pros typically use workstations with multiple sockets and support for 16 or 32GB of RAM, and for that type of work, they need it.

well how much video editing?? lol i guess yes going for a full 8gb would be the best choice but i wouldnt think 4gigs would be too bad at all

i would put in as much as you can. I am curious on what video editing you are running as i have seen none for vista 64 bit ( i am amateur). What are you using as if its working for you maybe something I want to try.

Can we open this up for discussion again?
Now we have more advanced games i.e. Crysis! Would having more than 4GB of RAM make playing more responsive and enjoyable?
I understand that you see an instant jump with the responsiveness of the vista being that it doesn't have to access the HDD as much but does this extend into applications?
I am running a QX6800 with 4GB of DDR2-1066 and 2 x 8800GTX's and want to run Crysis as best as by kit will allow; will the extra 4GB of RAM and whacking 64-bit on my machine make much of a difference?
