Hi all. I recently had to reformat my PC, due to windows XP bootmgr fail. So i went ahead and upgraded to vista ultimate since I already had it.

I deleted the partition, and reformatted, and did a clean install.

Just today i instaled AVG internet security (anti-virus/spyware, firewall, etc)

Well after install it of course asked me to do a full system scan. Since I didn't have virus protection for a few days i want ahead and did it.

Now this is the weird part.

After that scan had started a while, i noticed it was scanning files in "C:\Documents and Settings\<my name>\App data\Local\Aplication Data\Aplication Data\** more and more app. data's\ xxx folder.

xxx folder could be anything, but the most common are temp and content IE 5.

It's searched nearly 60,000 files so far. I just reformated, i have Warcraft, and a few other basic apps on my PC, nothing like 60K files. And Vista doesn't even have a \documents and settings folder.

So what gives? do you think that it's searching my old XP files? Did the format not go through?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Update, @140K files, still in application data

Yeah, in that appdata folder is a shortcut to appdata folder... so it recursively scan and scan without ending. Maybe its not made for Vista? Nod32 does not have this problem.

But the thing is, if i search my HD, there is no app data foler, or application data, or even documents and settings for that matter.

There is, in c:\users\<username>
Maybe you have to enable "show hidden files and folder"
The old "Document and Settings" is now "Users"
