Hi, I'm just wondering what the maximum specs Windows NT 4.0 will support.

Like maximum amount of ram, maximum size of hard drive supported etc.

Because I'm stetting up a soon-to-be dedicated file server, for in my home. But I can't decided to use NT 4.0 or 2000.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

4GB of RAM. (32-bit limitation more than a NT 4.0 limitation)
Probably ~137GB of hard drive space.

Depending on the processor, I would strongly recommend 2K over NT 4.0... simply because of the native PnP support, DirectX support and over all better hardware support... especially on newer hardware.

I plan on using a Pentium 3 733mhz with 512 megs of ram.

I was thinking of using NT 4.0 because it requires much less of a computer.

And because of the more system resources available when running Nt 4.0, I thought I would get better response times with network traffic.

I dunno though, I have an NT 4.0 cd ready, and I might have a 2000 cd.

I do not however, have a XP cd.

I would prefer 2K on that machine over NT 4.0. With 512MB of RAM, you really shouldn't notice the little extra overhead that 2K has over NT 4.0.

Ah, thanks for the advice. :)

However, I was just looking and I was unable to find my Windows 2000 install cd :(

I'm going to have to use NT 4.0 until I come across it.
