. . . . but I still cannot remote access desktop.

Do I FIRST need to setup VPN or is it just a matter of setting
firewall priviledges?

I get a "Remote Desktop cannot find the remote computer."

Any thoughts.

P.S. Laptop Vista currently uses internal wireless router to link with Linksys Wireless "G" router for internet access, which functions OK.

for a network, I want the laptop to be able to access the Desktop as a remote desktop. the laptop now uses the linksys wireless router to access the internet (as does the desktop access the internet thru an ethernet port on the Linksys) but now I alos want the lpatop to be able to control/access the desktop as it has external hardware (an audio mixing panel) that i wish to control remotely with the laptop!

Is the desktop XP Home by chance? Only Pro can be used (from the two) to remote desktop to. Also, make sure port 3389 is open on your firewall...
