May have been posted to death, but is still cool to fight about

I had Vista, got rid, too many steps to do things! Take a look at networking for example. Control Panel > Networking... > Manage..... > HERE

XP, Control Panel > Network.... > HERE , or even Start > Connect To > Show all connections > HERE. Simple maths!

Forget about making a shortcut, doesn't work :( quite sad really.... waiting for a service pack to get thought of before moving back....

im almost afraid even with a service pack it will still be bad i think they focused a little to much on how it looks and what the "End Users" wanted then what more technically enclined people wanted i mean its pretty much just a skinned xp with dx 10 and things like ie7 and wmp11 and dont get me started on its media center all in all microsoft rushed it way to much scrapped the new kernel and just built on the old one the release is alot like m.e. as well because if you remember very shortly after m.e. was released they were talking about xp which was whistler then and this time their already talking about black combs release date to be in 2009

You apparently haven't used Vista much if even at all.

Througout the entire installation process (new driver installs, constant rebooting...) and the last couple of weeks of the normal adjustment period, I have never had Vista die nor stop responding (32 or 64 bit, I have both). It has never failed to reboot with any message saying that says it is waiting for some process or driver to respond. This is certainly not the same with XP, even on my very mature and stable remaining XP system (still running but RSN), whenever I reboot, I get some message about waiting for network services or some dll failing to unload. I even have had a recent occasion to hold down the power switch and force XP to power-down.

I think Vista has a MUCH more sophisticated and stable core and you're just pissed because you just can't get to it.

You might as well get used to it - The king is dead, long live the king...

i have been beta testing since it was longhorn and was still in aplha's as far as stability goes it is barely better and with the decreased speed overall it is hardly worth it as xp works fine as long as you know how to set it up right even with all the visuals turned off it is still slower than xp if you have ever disabled the visuals you will notice that it appears to run faster with them on because the visual effects mask the delay of window contents loading either way vista is crap and enjor your drm

Haha, the 'faster' argument is such a crock. If you really are concerned about speed you should be running a worn-out copy of dos, now that's a fast operating system.

In 2001 when XP hit the market, people were bitch'n just like you about how much slower it was than me or even w2k... The fastest processor on the planet was an Intel Pentium III at a blazing 1.13Ghz and a well-heeled desktop had 128M (and you could even have xvga!). A reasonably priced Dell multi-media 'workstation' went for around $3k.

your missing the point the fact of the matter is that it is just windows xp kernel with some fancy visuals and a couple of thing done to explorer that should have been done with service packs/updates overall it is just a warmed over version of xp

Regarding the first part of your reply, I'm not missing any points, I completely answered your original statement with facts. Now you are now trying to change your issue which now gets a full...

roflmao! What in the world makes you think that you are any kind of a respected expert which could possibly even hint at the idea that 5 yrs and untold billions of dollars in R&D amount to "some fancy visuals and a couple of thing done to explorer"?

While the entire tech industry seems to poke fun of Vista like it's the next Playstation 3, i think these people need to lay off.

This is a product that has been around for a month and they're expecting it to run perfect (granted, Microsoft DID have enough time). But you can't blame Microsoft. it's the hardware developers who sit on their asses and twiddle their thumbs while a new OS is about to come out.

A 3-month old product with beta and first-gen drivers is NEVER going to beat a 5-year product with mature drivers.

Right now my stance is a Vista supporter. This OS has an AMAZING amount of potential.

However, if the problems that exist today still occur a year from now, then that is inexcusable.

So the complaint is that the alpha version was too stable?? Also, there appears to be a bit of confusion on the OS.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, I rather like it. Took a little while to get used to, but that was because I was trying to use it like XP. Once I approached it as a different OS, it's pretty cruisy.

Still has it's quirks, but then, what OS doesn't when it's first released. I'm running XP on a separate partition for software that doesn't quite work well in Vista, but I hardly go into there nowadays.

my personal experience with vista is great. i have ultimate x64.
i feel that everything runs smoother. there is still some software that i cant install because it is not available to vista. but, that is not Microsoft fault and they will eventually show up.

maybe my system configuration is better for vista than other's but i dont see any slowing down or less fps in games.
