Everytime i open internet explorer 7 it should bring up about:blank but instead takes me to (http://)protectionwarning(.com) and i get a pop-up saying i have a virus and to make a registry edit.

Has anyone found a way to remove this? AVG found and removed a virus a couple of nights ago and ad-aware keeps bringing up 3 trojans which i wipe everytime.

Thanks

You may have a virus that is infecting your Windows recovery files (so everytime they are cleaned, Windows replaces the file with an infected copy). I would suggest going into Safe Mode and run your AV. This may correct your issue.

Download and runCcleaner. It's will get rid of the leftovers of the trojan you installed.

You assumed i partake in illegal activity, i assumed you are an idiot. My assumption was correct, your assumption was not.

Thanks to the rest you replied sensibly like the majority of people on this forum. I ran ccleaner, avg and ad-aware and found that the best way to get rid of them was to use ad-aware to trace the root of the problem and then go in and delete the registry entries.

My first guess would have been ad / spyware.

You don't need to defend MS you most likely don't even have Vista and if you did it would be beyond you in all ways.

Yeah, I have Vista. In fact I have Vista Business and Vista Premium. Along with Windows XP Pro, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows ME, Windows 98SE, Windows 98, Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 95a, Windows 3.11. Also Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Slackware, Damn Small, Vector, Mepis, Debian, ZenWalk, Puppy and Scientific Linux OS'es and I probably shouldn't forget FreeBSD and PC-BSD. I probably graduated about the same time you were born and was working on missile components and guidance systems before you were out of diapers. Now, go play with the kiddies somewhere else.

I'm glad it worked out. I haven't run into much that gets past Ccleaner's registry cleaner.
