I have a clean new W2000 installation but, when I boot, and sometimes later, I get a script error before I've even started IE or any other browser:

Internet Explorer script error.
An error has occurred in a script on this page.
Line 139
Char 3
Error 'document.body.filters.0' is null or not an object
Code 0
URL file://C:\Documents and Settings\DH\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop.htt
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Task Manager shows no sign of IE.

I've installed all available Windows updates, run virus checkers, Spybot, Ad-Aware, etc. Have also disabled 'script debugging' and 'display a notification about every script error' in Internet Options - to no effect.

Any ideas about what's causing this?

I am on XP, but it is probably the same. This might be something related to web items on your desktop. Check to see if there is any web items enabled (again this is xp):

right click desktop, properties
on the desktop tab, click customize desktop
click on the web tab
are any items checked?

Also change your background to none. See if that helps.

If not, you may consider replacing that file with one from a working machine.

I don't think this is a true IE problem, but IE is so integrated into windows now, it is hard to tell.
