Vista is a huge improvement over Win XP.

Dont go for Vista Start, using areo will actually improve your preformace when using the desktop as it will offload the aero desktop work onto the GPU freeing up a tiny bit of work off the CPU.

Ive had Vista installed on
AMD64 3700+ 2.2ghz Sandiago Single Core CPU
1gig ram
x850xt

It has run very smoothy, nothing to complain about. Just like when windows XP came out it required alot of hardware power but by tweaking it you can increase the preformance

When using Vista 32-bit version most programs and drivers should run. The only time when it will not run is when it runs in 16-bit which is very few, only crappy software developers use 16-bit now. Ive had a few problems with programs but with alittle word they ALL are running, everything i had on my old XP Pro Machine.

The 32-bit feature has had 1 security hole in it and it was very minor, let me explain to all the idoits that dont listen

For the hacker to attack your computer they must of frist physically ( sat at your computer in your living room or where ever you have it ) before they can attack it externally. This was a problem with the 32-bit version. 1 break thru in 1+ year is very good, nothing is really 100% safe.

the 64-bit is much more secure with 4 more measures in place to protect your comp.

Alot of problem with Vista is that it is still a Beta OS, people still have to learn how to use it instead of just baggin it and say linux ROCKZ (cheapass) give it time and shortly after realese any major software developer eg winRAR, Nero (i have them working just using example) will have a Vista Ready edition

Direct X 10 on linux is still a big maybe and could be a very long time off.
