Hello, I recently purchased a Toshiba laptop with Windows Xp 2005 Media Center Edition on it.

I reformated the hard drive in hopes of installing my regular windows XP on it and getting rid of all the toshiba crapware I did not need.

It didnt work since I was already using the activation key on my desktop.

My question is, since I have a legit CD Key for Media Center Edition, is it possible i can get the standalone version free without all this toshiba crapware?

ps. All that came with the comp was the 2 recovery DVD's :(

thanks alot :D

You would need to find a Windows XP 2005 MCE OEM CD for it to work with your CD key.

Instead of reformatting, was there any chance you could have removed some of the Toshiba stuff in "Add/Remove" Programs inside the Control Panel?

I had that same problem with my Dell laptop and I just reformatted it and about 98% of the crap was gone and I easily removed the rest.
