Select DirectX 9 games aren't working with Vista. I'm running RC1 Build 5600. DirectX 10 is installed. the games that won't run are:

Scarface: The world is yours
Flight Simulator 2004

Scarface doesn't render the character or walls. The flames and blood splatter show but as I entioned the walls and players are not rendered at all

Flightsim loads to the setup screen, but when I launch into the 3d world it just goes not responding and dies.

running an ATI X1600 Pro with latest drivers, Vista RC1 5600 and Intel Core2 Duo with 2GB dual channel ram

I have a similar proplem with Gothic 3. Can install, but at that
piont won't recognise the DVD when I "try" to run the game. It tells me to insert the dvd and restart, the dvd is in the optical drive ( the one I installed from, as I have dual opticals. Funny thing is the Demo worked fine. Both are directx 9.0c games
Run Oblivian fine.

ps running RC1 also..was more stable than beta 2
running AMD 3800+,2 gig ram on ati x700

Certain games have not been optimized to run with Vista currently. As time goes by, the developers will change this by delivering Vista patches.

Even for games like FS2004 though? Honestly doubt microsoft would do that considering that FS X is out. I have heard there is a DLL you can put somewhere to make programs work...is that true?

Thanks!

I thought I read that Vista will include a special, optimized version of DX9 for backwards compatibility?

found a partial answer,, dvd drives in one machine don't support
the cdfs file system,,strange thing is I can install the game from the
same drive but not run it.. that is on the computer with Vista rc1
played with some things on windows xp mostly changed drive setup
old slave now master and to cs loads and run gothic 3 now..

correction maybe,, cdfs might not be supported in Vista RC!
as report / solution is fixed in RTM
