I have a pcg-fr720 sony vaio notebook(laptop) and it came with a 40GB harddrive, I'm pretty sure its 4200RPM drive. On the sony vaio website for upgrading, it stated it wasn't recommended that you upgrade the harddrive as their may not be enough cooling for new drives.

I was thinking about upgrading to say a 100/120GB drive.

What makes drives run hotter? More RPM? Newer technology? Newer drives?

Oh yeah i forgot to add its a ATA drive.
