Yeah, I just read the whole thing too.

Other than the OP, I think the real winner is Scryer_360, though it was looking prety good for Eric in the begining. The stores really can make it hard, but I guese it would be too easy to abuse the system otherwise.

hello eric54 i see you have a vast amount of knowledge with this, and therefore I am seeking your help. I brought a HP laptop from bestbuy for $950 plus tax, plus the geeksquad warranty, the total came out to over $1200. This was back in 2007, since i bought the laptop it had been giving me problems like randomly shutting off and rebooting for no reason. I was to busy with school to take in to bestbuy but after the problem got worse I had no other choice but to take it in, and this is where my problems begin. On January 19, 2008 i took my laptop in to find out the problem the geeksquad agent was very nice and helpful and said we'll ship it out. Now the first thing they repaired was the motherboard and that took about 3 weeks, when I received my laptop back the problem persisted, I was angry and therefore went in the same day i received it and told them the problem was still happening. They then sent it in again and this time replaced the hard drive. Another 2 weeks go by and I finally get my laptop back and must now reinstall my Operating system. I tried for about 2 days to restore my laptop but it was stuck in a cycle of rebooting every 2 minutes. I got fed up took it to bestbuy yet again and they said they can restore it for me so i dropped off my AC adapter and restore discs. One week later i get a call saying the restore discs i supplied do not work and must order new ones at my own expense. I then ordered new restore discs through HP for $50, and give it to geeksquad. Another week passes and they claim to have fixed my laptop. I pick it up only to find that half of my programs havent been installed. I trie once again restoring the laptop with the new restore discs only to find that the problem was never fixed and therefore spent $50 dollars for nothing. I took the laptop back a few days later since I am a student and didnt have time to go right then. The same geeksquad agent helped me and he said the problem was the harddrive, and that they replaced the old one with a faulty one. They then sent it out again for repair, this is now around the middle of March of 2009. Keep in mind I have had my laptop a total of 2 days from January 19,2009- March 20, 2009 , and in those two days it wasn't working. Now they once again replaced the harddrive and claimed to have restored it which took another week. We are now at the end of March 2009 and I just picked up my laptop, I turn it on and it works fine for a few hours. I was so happy but then it automatically restarted for some updates to work properly, however it never restarted it turned off and then turned back on to a black screen with a very annoying sound coming out. I immediately took it back to bestbuy and they said it is a RAM issue and that they would need to send it out again. At which point i blew up and said no, you guys have had this laptop for the past 3 months and you havent been able to fix it you have replaced the motherboard, and the harddrive 2 times!!! What are my options?!

The geeksquad agent informed me about the no lemon law and told me my product has been repaired three times and therefore qualifies we are just going to send it in for an approval which takes about 3 weeks. I said fine and headed home. Now my dilemma is that i have begun to look at laptops and decided on the new 13'' macbook aluminum which costs $1600. I really want this laptop however i do not know if they would be willing to exchange my old laptop for this Apple one, and if they do but ask me to pay the difference I just dont have that kind of cash. Now i have been without a laptop for over 2 months, I am a student and consistently had to travel to my cousins's house, stay at college late or go to a friends house to type up papers. I have a folder with about 30 pages of all the repairs they did to my old laptop. Since you seem to have a lot of information on the topic, are there any suggestions you can give me to persuade these people at bestbuy to exchange the laptop for the Apple one. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer me, and aslo if you can reply back ASAP they are about to finish up my approval process because thats what it says online under the tracking number.

You do realize that you are asking a question from someone that posted a reply to this thread 2 years ago. Don't you?

Maybe he's still around.

Well, if we were talking about Circuit City, eric54's knowledge would be obsolete?

In any case, what happened to laptop-puncher? Oops, read the happy ending post :P
