i don't want a microsoft firewall/antivirus. i use avg and KERIO PF, and i'm happy so far. where can i undelete this garbage..?
any help appreciated.

Go to Control Panel, and choose Security Center. You can turn off Windows firewall there. I don't think Windows has antivirus though.

Security center is not shown in add remove programs. I can't find a way to turn it off. Is there some other way to get rid of it?

control panel-->security center (not add/remove programs)-->you can turn them off in there-->click the bottom link to the side to 'change the way security center alerts me'-->uncheck each box. That will disable the pop-ups notifying you that they are disabled.
