Dell is crap. I'm posting this on here because I need some assistance. I normally wouldn't buy Dell crap but it was for my office. I bought an E521 with an Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz. CPU-Z, SIW, and WCPUID ALL say this processor is running at 1002.09 MHz. What the F is that? Anyone have any idea why this would be the case?

Try learning something about AMD's cool and quiet technology before blaiming the manufacturer for your ignorance.

The 'problem' is something called Cool'n'Quiet and it's throttling back your CPU automatically when there is little or no load; try compressing a large file or playing a high quality video and you will see the CPU speed bump to 2.0GHz until the process has finished, and then back to 1.0GHz
Schadenfreude parties are the best. We're inviting you to one for this thread.
Don't feel so bad, I was confused by my E4300 throttling back, myself. Live and learn, then get Luvs.
cool n quiet?

fixed. you're welcome!
But he still reserves the right to and is totally entitled to hate Dell, and not blame AMD
It's just the natural thing to do, Hate on Dell (:twisted
Don't make fun of him, Dell Tech Support probably directed him here to try to find an answer.
Only the technically Advanced(snickers) Representatives of Dell could pull that off and still look Graceful to the West Virginia soccer Mom.

Nah, this is an advanced form of dark humor, or sarcasm, or sheer idiocy. Any one seems to be as likely as the next. I'm going to have some pudding, and enjoy my Gateway.

Little Missy speaking to her husband Bubba: "Bubba, if we get a divorce will I still be your sister?"
As has been stated it is cool and quiet. you can disable it in bios or just go to the power settings and set the power profile to always on or possibly desktop. the laptop/ mobile setting enables it. personally I would leave it on
so the computer doesn't crank out so much heat. it will still run full speed when the programs require it to.

Dood, chill out a little bit. The worst form of censorship is self-censorship.
In related news, our OP seems to have dissapeared. I hope he has learned his lesson about doing research before blaming others xD

Funny that....
Why is th USA ALWAYS the benchmark for everything? Dont get me wrong, im not saying it wasnt a tradgedy etc, but look at the rest of the world for once. South Africa for example (where i was born). EVERY YEAR there are ~7,000 murders, attempted murders and rape cases. Not taking into account assults, serious assults, all forms of robbery and hijackings. All of that in a city of ~3Mil. Thats not faceless crime either, thats your mom, sister, wife, gran getting carjacked, robbed, raped, beaten and shot if shes lucky. Id rather die in a 'towering inferno' TBH.
Anyway... my point is real terrorism has been going on for DECADES, just because it didnt happen in the USA before 911, doesnt mean its not out there, thriving.
So when u make pre/post 911 comments, think of a city the size of LA... 1 in 1,000 will be murdered, even higher if you include culpable homicide. Thats the environment i grew up in, so again, while 911 is very tragic, it doesnt really mean anything to me.
Again... sry if i offend anyone, but 911... to most people outside the USA 911 means nothing more that more airline security garbage.
Oh and back to the point... yah, cool n quiet... try a search next time, at least u dont have to wait for a response or put up with BS.

D@mn that's one hell of a good point I've longed to hear/read on the Internet....I think the OP's really gone for now. don't bash him/her too hard, may be he's/she's having a bad day
Quote : Thats the environment i grew up in, so again, while 911 is very tragic, it doesnt really mean anything to me.
Well, there you go, you just hit the nail on the head. Most of us did not grow up in South Africa, but here in AMERICA. That's the environment we grew up in, and 9/11 IS a big deal to us. Maybe 7000 Murders in a city halfway around the world doesn't really mean anything to me either, think about that? You think there's no murder/rape/robbery/assault/whateverotherf**kedup$hit around here to deal with? Better think again. I think you should STFU and quit hijacking threads that didn't even have anything to do with this $hit in the first place.
BTW, if you grew up in South Africa, you should already know that it's not a city of ~3Mil, but a country, even I know that. Or are you even grown up yet?
Hewlett Packard computers are great compared to Dell, and Gateway's still suck.
Problem is that the murders in South Africa doesn't cause cause that much change in the world (read other countries) as 9/11 did. For better or for worse to each his own opinion. Anyway don't think this is the right place to be debating international relations.

This is an international forum. Try to think beyond your local nightly news. I think that was his point about how arrogant and closed minded most USA citezens are that you just proved oh so elequantly.
Quote : Hewlett Packard computers are great compared to Dell, and Gateway's still suck.
Don't kid yourself, HP computers suck equally as bad or worse. And I love their tech support from New Delhi. They read the book to you the best. I called them because a hard drive crashed. SMART failure, you know, dead. I just needed to get the CDs that should have been in the box with the computer, but aren't. They have that easier, better, hidden partition that lets you easily install the OS in the event of corruption. Unless your HD takes a complete crap, which is likely with those under powered Chinese power supplies they provide. I kept telling him that I can't press F11 on boot because the hard drive (the hardware) is broken. I asked him if he was familiar with SMART Self-Monitoring... Analysis... and Reporting...Technology that shows a hard drive failure in the BIOS, and he kept asking me "but have you pressed F11?" After going around and around about five times he finally relented and sent me back to the USA and tier 2 tech. I told tier 2 my problem and he asked "what's your address?" I finally got my CDs but I was seconds away from sticking a pencil in my eye to stop the pain.
Also, Dells and Gateways suck.
It's not just in the states here in Russia I had a terrible experience with HP support. The kept on keeping me on hold and then cutting off. After about 2 hours each day for 2 weeks I sent my hardware through a friend to Moscow and he personally handed it over to their support staff.
HP support eats bantha excrement!!!!! They are the worst.

I'm with you on that. I wasn't even looking for support, or the hard drive, I just wanted the XP cds that they should have provided with the computer in the first place, if they weren't so cheap. Instead I get idiot boy telling me to do a restore on a blown hard drive.

Flasher702:
My point EXACTLY
If this IS an international forum why then is 911 the causal event on which my sarcastic comments may no longer be tolerated? :?
How many countries have you lived in btw?
Ive lived in 4 countries so far and im 26, visited many many more. Im also involved with international security consultation with our (Australia) gov't. Thinking beyond the nightly news is how ive defined my life.
FSXFan:
South Africa has a population of 47 Million. Johannesburg, often mistaken for the Capital (Pretoria) does indeed have a population of some 3 Million (~2001). Check your facts.
Sry abt the hi-jack, i didnt bring up 911... just suckered into a response.
Me thinks its not the fact that he was from Delhi or Timbuktu. Its just that HP should invest a little more money in the training of their support staff.
My problem was that they kept on insisting that my guarantee was not valid while a simple search on HPs website using the serial number proved that it was
I really don't mind where the support comes from as long as it's competent.

First of all I was only commenting that inciting someone to firebomb an establishment has always been frowned on, and more so with the crackdown on terrorist activity after 911. I was not commenting on the terrorist act that occurred on 911 at all. I certainly didn't mean to start this ridiculousness. So keep up the good work.
I won't even engage in this debate with you as I would most assuredly get banned pronto.

Well the outsourcing is done to save money at the expense of competency. Quite frankly they don't give a crap, except if that crap is the hardware that they are selling.

I think this is a misconception. It doesn't matter really where your staff is as long as they are properly trained. You are just as likely to hire incompetent staff in the US as you are elsewhere. Only you will have to pay the bad US tech staff many times more than the bad Indian tech staff.
I say that companies like HP who outsource (which is understandable as they are in it for the profit) should reinvest a part of the money they save through salaries, for training. It's just stupid company policy. I wonder when they realize that the bad PR is costing them. Even though my prob was a personal one I advise everybody to stay away from HP nowadays (even on a professional level).

Arrogant and closed minded? I'm probably the most opened minded person I know! I'm not a heartless bastard that doesn't care about suffering around the world. If anything, I care more about international affairs than most of the celebrity gossip and politically correct BS that gets aired on the news locally. All the news I watch/read is international. I didn't say I don't care that people are dying in South Africa, just that MAYBE someone who lives halfway around the world from might not care about it happening any more than he cares about the events of 9/11. It goes both ways.
maybe toms should start a political forum?
Quote : I thought that 911 was your emergency number for ambulance services. Why is that dangerous? Are you out of ambulances? We seem to have a fair few here in AUS, maybe we could loan you some?
(in the voice of Borat): That was NOT funny.

And maybe Tom's should start banning grave diggers.
One thing I've learnt from TH is that not everyone who lives in the U.S. is a overweight, narrow minded psycho ultra-conservative gun-loving god-fearing arrogant tool as international media so enjoys portraying Americans as (which is why I no longer watch the news or read the newspaper; I sometimes read online news though).
It's like saying that all Aussies are lazy, narrow minded racist whingers with a poor attitude towards alcohol.
There's good and bad to every country. Without the U.S. we wouldn't have George Bush or Paris Hilton (good), but we also wouldn't have a lot of technological innovation as well (bad). Just last week American and British scientists figured out how to create stem cells from skin cells on mice (source: Yahoo news).
Pardon me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't the stem cell research based on some primary research out of Japan?
Quote : Pardon me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't the stem cell research based on some primary research out of Japan?
Hmm... That's the info I got from Yahoo news. Excuse me if I'm wrong.
You do raise another point though, and that is that if people get over their petty indifferences and work together then we can achieve miraculous things.
I stand corrected.
I just found something new to come from the U.S. caled Seadragon (I think that's the correct spelling).

If that fails then at least there's the Tesla Rodaster and Wrightspeed X1.
Instead of phoning HP to order those CDs, you could have saved yourself a lot of hassle and just ordered them from the website. Better than trying to explain the situation to people that barely know English.
Oh and incidentally... make the damn CDs... then you can use the ones you made and keep the originals in a nice, safe place if they are ever needed. HPs have a utility to make the recovery CDs / DVDs in the event you need them.
