the cooler on the 88s are pretty good

One thing I noticed on the gt model, No pci express power plug.
Maybe is on the underside, but I kind of doubt it. That alone will boost sales. No new psu to buy.

What do you think this will do to the price of the 8800gts?

Reply to Jedi940

So is this thing's gonna beat the hell out of the 8800GTS that I just got and haven't even installed yet? Tell me the truth!!!!

the 86gts wont (beat) the 88gts.

Where do you see HDMI?

I see two DVI and one 7pin video-out header, a 6 pin power connector, and a single SLi header like the X88GTS.

who cares if its 128bit, i think gfx cards specs is overrated.its the performance and benchmark that matters. x1950xtx might be using ddr4 but a ddr3 8800gtx smokes it.

still, the 2000mhz memory is FAST!

That 8600 couldn't scratch the 8800 gts , it would be like trying to shoot a tank with a BB gun . That my sir is the TRUTH

GDDR4 is known to have little or no speed advantage over GDDR3 however it is well known the the Memory Bus width is a very important factor for performance. IMO 128bit is a waste of time however this generation of cards has pretty highly clocked memory so I spose that makes up for it. Benchmarks are what matters bet specs matter to as you can get an understanding of how good the benchies will be from them :D .

 You beat me to it, I was gonna post the info about the 8600 too
Anyway heres what I found:

GeForce 8600GT

The GPU used is labelled G84-300. The GPU clock runs at 540MHz and GDDR3 at 1400MHz. G84 does not support HDCP. There is another version G84-305 comes with HDCP support.

The 8600GT is supposed to take over the mainstream market of the 7600GT and 7600GS from May 2007. There will be 128M and 256MB versions of the 8600GT cards. Both cards will support GDDR3 128bits Dual DVI, HDTV and HDCP.

The card looks like the normal 7600GT. THere is no 6 pin aux power connector. There is two DVI-I and a SLI connector Slot on top.

The 8600GT and 8500GT will be announced on the same day but will be on sale from 1st may 2007.

Pricing of 8600GTS is around $200-250
8600GT is around $150-180
8500GT is around $90

LOL!

Dude way to contradict yourself in the same post.

"Who cares about bitwidth; the XTX has GDDR4 (256bit), and the GDDR3 (384bit) 8800GTX smokes it. "

Nice! http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5721/slap2gi1.gif

Perhaps your argument would be more compelling if the GTX were the same bitwidth, and equally fast or slower overall bandwidth GDDR3. Now had you picked the GTS, at least the overall bandwidth would be the same.

Not to mention the core differences.

The fans on those prototypes look like little noisemakers, like the one on my 9800pro hah. Let's hope there are some good aftermarket coolers on the way from AC or Zalman.

Personally, I doubt either of these 8600's will keep up with the X1950XTX. That's alot to ask for a 128-bit card.

They were rumored to be back at the initial Hong Kong article in January or was it December, but all of the more recent articles have claimed the mid/entry level 8xxx series are 128-bit.

i think Nvidia dont liked the idea of 8600 ultra , its likely to be to damn close to the 8800 gts 320mb

here have a bonus : the nvidia 8500 gt , it outperforms last generation 7600gs, its 128-bit and 256mb ddr2
