IMO, I think the fx's are too much (especially considering you can get the 5200 for $220 where as the fx-62 is almost $500 just because of the unlocked mults), but if you got the dough (no pun intended), then they're worth the unlocked mults. Anyways, thats cool how you have two fx machines, I can't even afford one

Socket 939 man...the FX-60 is dual core @ 2.6ghz, but the FX-55 is a single core, same frequency. Don't NEED dual core for a gaming machine. I spent about $300 on the FX-60 and $130 on the FX-55 I think. I had a 4200+ X2 I sold for $220? I think (bought for $350), and an Athlon64 3000+ that was temporary (bought for $85?) which I still have if anyone cares to solder a pin back on it. I bent it when I took off a heatsink that was stuck to it a little too well (no I didn't use adhesive), and couldn't bend it back, it snapped. Which is why I'm glad they're doing away with these damn pins on processors. Motherboards are cheaper to replace, and with all the cheapo parts they have mobo's give out first usually anyway.

For what its worth to those of you looking at colleges, I got wait-listed at Carnegie Mellon (though I think that had a lot to do with a certain incident involving a suspension in HS, and the fact that I was applying for financial aid as a middle-class white male. More the suspension.) I ended up at PSU which has a pretty good computer science and engineering school. They have one of the top women in computer engineering as a professor. She specializes in lowering power consumption usage in processors and did a lot of work with Intel. She probably was at least a consultant for Pentium M and Conroe.

I decided I was sick of school and eschewed the whole Graduate School thing. Plus, someones got to earn the money. My wife's a PHD student at the moment. I may go back for one or more Grad degrees (Comp Sci or Comp Eng and possibly an MBA) eventually.

damn man all you guys have inspired me... [imaging finding inspiration on a tech forum... :) ]... i need to get off the computer and quit being average. i don't think i can RAISE my 4.0 but i really need to learn more on my own. wow you guys really are amazing, though.

here's to reaching for goals

I love it that someone keeps giving me a 1 star vote. At least I know they're paying attention to me! :-)

Reply to JonnyDough

wow damn how did like 4 pages get between the post to which i replied and my actual reply? ...oops.

anyway, idk, apparently i missed out on like 4 pages, but it looks like the other guys don't like you very much and that may have something to do with the 1star votes.

just a guess.

yeah i read that craziness, its insane. i hate people that go and do that with their money... i coulda built liek 15 rigs with that money he spent on ONE frickin card that won't do what he wants...

its like the embodiment of that THG article about server parts...

Reply to lordaardvark2

man that guy's an idiot, if I had that kind of money, I would build two ultimate 1337 machines, a massive monitor and a 24" for lan parties, the ultimate desk for it, and still have money left over. That stuff would cost me say $6k per machine if I really wanted to waste money, $1k for the big screen, $600 for the 24", and $1k for a nice desk. That taken into account, I would still have $600, and I would be the happiest taco in the world

But there's one thing I wouldn't have, the ability to go to that guy's house with a bunch of friends and laugh in his face:priceless

What a focking idiot. His right to have a computer should be revoked.

Reply to dasickninja

I thought you would like to see that :D I don't have school tomorrow either, so I'm gonna stay up late tonight mocking that dewd, but I feel bad for him, so I'm going to try to convince him to get rid of the quadro for say sli 8800gtxs, I feel people have been a bit too tough on him, you can tell by his posts

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

He is a noob, and as such needs to be forced out of his noobery.

Reply to Lionhardt

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Dude, fukking 30 quotes, and like 3 sentences of answers for each, I'm screwed.

"Fukk the system"

Reply to Lionhardt

huh? please elaborate

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

lol, i handed it in.

but now i found out that i have a fukkin 95 in english (A+ is a 97)
and i have a 95 in IBT (97 IS a+)

so close to all A='s/

Reply to Lionhardt

nothing wrong with a healthy 95%, if you aren't happy with it, then I think you are trying too hard, give yourself a break and enjoy the grades you get. I used to get mad about stuff like that a few years ago, but after a while once I stopped paying so much attention to them, I became very content with a 95% (though I have something like 106% in biology, but that's not a good example, it's a breezer class for me, I'm a math and science dewd) and found life a lot more simple, but that's just me

Anyways, I exchanged my board at bestbuy  And it works now!! I'm so happy this board is comfortable to use once I got used to it (though I would not recommend to finger peckers)

haha you're posting at school? niiice. if i got on at school i'd never got off...

yeah, i only have a 95 average of all my classes, with some low As (read: i have a 90.0 8O ), so i should probably work on that. meh. maybe not.

i have half days today and tomorrow, and friday completely off... i can't believe some of you losers get whole weeks off. but i'm skipping tomorrow because i'm going back to my hometown for a visit, because i'm an uncle as of last thursday...! woot.

^_^

thank you, kind sir.

her name is Lily.

and to think i was going to beat my brother to having kids... lol just kidding

Reply to lordaardvark2

congradulations, and how old is your brother, must be a fairly big age difference like my sister and I, whom I am 7 years older to the hour (well, 1 hour at 10 minutes, but close enough)

And just wondering, what do you do in your spare time if you were to have kids first

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

yeah i was just kidding. he's got a 12 yr headstart on me 8O i've got old parents, too... bro is 29, then me @ 16, then my younger bro at 11.

ah, you know... i dabble in this and that in my free time. not the kind of manwhore that'd have a kid @ 16 tho 8O don't worry it'll be a WHILE before there are any jrs., a LONG while, 'specially if i go to med school

Reply to lordaardvark2

I wouldn't worry about it, just because you're going to med school doesn't mean you can't get married or anything (and these days that's not really a prerequisite for having kids anyways 8O )

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

nah my point was more that i'd have no time or money for kids. but idk if thats even where i'm gonna end up. i guess we'll see [/terrible life philosophy]

I know very well of Ann Arbor, as I used to live there

I live in West Bloomfield; we got the whole day off yesterday, and a half-day today and tomorrow.

Reply to angry_ducky

man, you rich people :D I have a couple of friends that live in west bloomfield, but all their houses are massive and they are rich beyond belief, one of them owns a 7000 sqft house with the lake behind it, kinda like Billy the goat with his million dollar house and my house is smaller than half of that

Anyways, I like Ann Arbor because of all the cultural things it has, but west bloomfield is cool too

Not everyone in West Bloomfield is rich; there's a part which I call "redneck West Bloomfield", which is all small weekend cottages from the 70's. We live in a kinda-nice house in the nice part of West Bloomfield.

But you're right; a lot of the people in W.B. are (filthy) rich. What I find funny is that all the sophmores and juniors in my (freshman) math class (lol) are from these rich families; they all drive Cadillac, Infiniti, etc.

You should see the (student) parking lot at my school; the cars are nicer than those in the staff parking :). It makes sense, though; teachers get just above minimum wage :)

Every house in W.B. has a lake behind, in front of, on the side of, or at least near, it :)

West Bloomfield is a nice place to retire, but there's absolutely nothing here aside from office buildings, houses, and strip malls. Trust me, I'd much rather live in Ann Arbor.

Reply to angry_ducky

Yeah, if you want a nice large house and you're say a doctor, then west bloomfield is perfect, but my house has a gazillion stores next to it, a bunch of people my age, a few really big high schools, and especiall the U and it's stadium/basketball court

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

hahahaha thats funny because my last name is BROOMFIELD, but everyone always calls me "bLoomfield," pisses me off... now i know who i can blame, you Bloomfield Michigan-ers! >:|

yeah lionhardt doctors are pretty sweet 'n all, but ibuprofen has one hell of a chemical structure, we had to make 3D models in my chem class and that one took forever but it was the most fun

ugh! what pisses me off about where i live now, is that there's NOTHING near me... i guess thats Georgia for you. good lord, it sucks though, coming from a (by comparison) GOTHAM CITY, where i could walk everywhere and stuff... now you've gotta DRIVE to get ANYWHERE... no friends in walking/close range... grumble grumble... DINNER TIME

Reply to lordaardvark2

lol, I walk or bike to almost anywhere I want because of the structure of Ann Arbor, if you ever get the time, I think you should check it out, it has all the benefits of New York's big city 1337ness without the hours of traffic

Enjoy your dinner

Yea; downtown Ann Arbor, around U of M is really nice. Hopefully I will be going there in 3 years.

Reply to angry_ducky

Same here, but I actually don't live in downtown, I live in outskirts, but Ann Arbor has grown so large, what used to be the outskirts of the city now has the center of the new homes and such and a bunch of stores

oh, it was fantastic, thank you for you good wishes. i think thats what made it so good :D yeah, i used to be able to bike and walk like you said, it was amazing, i willfully walked to school and all over the place (i say willfully because not everyone is a cross country runner like i), it was very nice, it was like pre-driving independence, i guess.

angry_duck, thank you SO MUCH for the link in your sig, i've never seen that before, and i forgot how great engrish was! thanks a bundle!
