I like these forums very much. I am often here and try to contribute as much as possible, to the best of my limited knowledge. I find there are many discussions that are worthwhile reading.

On the other hand, much of the enjoyment in these forums in being taken away by flame wars between Intel vs. AMD fanboys, and nvidia vs. ATI fanboys.

That's just CHILDISH.

Many threads that start up as a very interesting discussion often endup as a war between fanboys. It's getting old already.

So there it is, my rant about these childish people, who take pride in these little wars. Stop already.

I've posted a similar rant in some "LOLZ ATI ZOMG DEAD" thread, so I agree competely.

I think everyone here should listen to Anamanaguchi and chill out.

Flamers won't read this thread. They are busy flaming.

I agree 100%!! That is why I dont come here all that often anymore. Nothing like a bunch of people starting flame wars in a good post that some is lokking for help in.

It's out of hand & I dont think there is any moderation here. I think most of the guys that flame are only looking for thier post counts to increase hoping that people will think they are knowledgeable about hardware.

When you reach a certain level, it doesn't bother you anymore, and the things said don't inspire "righteous indignation" anymore. You still make acidic comments on stupidity, but overall, the flame wars just become a source of entertainment. Then you become like prozac (indifferent and witty) or me (sarcastic and morose).

I am in no way a computer expert and after reading the amount of knowledge on the subject, posted by some of the people here, I wonder if I should even consider myself an "enthusiast" , but I have to agree.
I often read the first few post and quit for this reason.
So what if "x" is beating the crap out of "y" at the moment.
I come here because I am looking for knowledge.
Thus the low post count ,that and my ignorance of the details.:)

"Dont worry about your ban. Ill stop by the abuse department on the way in to my ISP network engineering job. Im sure your website appearing on every blacklist on the face of the planet will keep you busy for a month or so. Or perhaps I should accidentally redirect one of those Avici TSR OC-48 blades to your house. You know us rednecks and numbers longer than ten get confused. Im sure you can understand if it takes a few days to get that traffic back to normal."

"Dont worry about that email reply, I dont think mommy has it in the budget to spring for little johnnys next computer. Youll just have to go out and get a job of your own this time. "

Major, if you had taken the time to at least read the sig, you'd have noticed I am no AMD fanboy. I like Intel as much as I like AMD. Three of my 6 machines are AMD, although my main rig is a P4.

I do admit intel at the moment has great products and which I wish I had a C2D right now. I do, however, hope AMD can get out of the hole it's got itself into. It's best for the sake of all of us.

I also like nVidia as much as ATI... and I have both (my 2ndary machine has a Radeon 9800)

I like Windows as much as I like Linux... and I use both.

that is a true pearl of wisdom.

Tom should just close the forums, and whenever someone tries to ask a question they are simply redirected to the above statement. The begining and end of all truths. You could as well add: AND ASUS BOARDS ARE BETTER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE. AND YOU SHOULD ONLY BUY FROM NEWEGG. AND DON'T USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN ARCTIC SILVER 5.

Wouldn't that simplify the whole thing?

Reply to Simonetti

Exactly! Most of the worst fanboys are juveniles or people with stunted social skills or aspbergers syndrome. THey are hostile and nasty and rude.....and you can't get rid of them so ignore them...it frustrates the bejesus out of them :)

Seriously Aspbergers is one of the biggest reasons behind techy types being rude and nasty, the other is as I said just a juvenile demeanor and poor social skills. For years Aspbergers was unknown and you just always knew certain people who were real SOB's .....now we know there is a reason. Its a form of Mental disability. Some control it better than others.

On the other hand - The fanboy flame wars are sometimes the best sources of information. Its a double-edged sword. In the world of courtroom justice, it has been proven that a jury gets the most information for making their important decision by having two lawyers zealously representing their clients. Both sides do the investigation and construct the arguments that will put their clients in the best light. I think the same is true here between ATI, NVIDIA, AMD, and INTEL fanboys.

If it weren't for the ATI fanboys, a lot of casual computer hobbyists might come to the conclusion that NVIDIA is clearly superior and ATI has nothing to offer. The ATI fanboys. however, will let you know why the 1950XT is a good buy right now. I for one don't mind the flame wars because the competing sides often put forward information you otherwise would not have gotten. Besides, I agree 100% with DaSick Ninja on the right attitude to approach the flamewars. Just take them for their entertainment value and filter out the other hyperbole.

I come on the forum everyday i learn something new. about computer's and i have been in computers sense i was 7 and i am now 21. and even with the flame wars. it does help becasue even tho they are flaming alot fo them are speaking the truth about the company. i mean yeah i have used ati amd intel and nvidia. right now i have a p4 with a ati video card in it. when i had amd i used a nvidia. it does not make a differnce to me. all i care about is saving some money when i build a new computer. and that computer will work and do what i want it to do for a few years. i mean all the company's are good and they are bad. so really it all is the same some have the uppper hand on the other. just like just amd had intel on the upper hand on cpu's and how ati was good and then nvidia took over. its all the same in way or other. because like i said all comapny's have there good product's and there bad product's. so i really it does not make a differnce if the flame war's go on i think. its good people are fighting for the company they belive in there nothing wrong with that. some people take out of control. or out and way out there but. you will always learn something you never knew before. i mean just because someone says oo this company sucks and this company rules. i mean they are just standing up for what they belive in. some people belive that amd will come back some belive they won't i belive in all company's neways when these war's go on the customer wins because of low price's so what if people flame you are saving money in the end.

Yeah, I know you are right that ultimately you have to ignore them, because some of them won't quit flaming no matter how you point out what they are doing.

I've been thinking I should just make 1 post in response to a personal attack, identifying it for everyone according to it's type: Name-calling, smear, strawman, etc. and then stop responding. But....perhaps even this is a bad idea.

Perhaps if I simply make a impersonal general response saying I don't respond to personal characterizations, smears, strawmen, etc..

"I don't respond to personal attacks or strawman posts"

What do you think? Is this a good idea?

thanks. If everyone who doesn't flame used "fanboy" or "fan" in their signature, maybe we could remove one of the main trolling insults from the forum.

But humor may be the best, so perhaps I'll try to make it funnier.

Ok, I admit I've been a bit hard on AMD/ATI this last week, might call it a bit incendiary, but in context, its because I've mainly used AMD and ATI products for the past 6 years and feel a bit betrayed. I mean, I had even liked AMD enough to buy some of their stock. But the past few weeks, and last week in particular, it seems that the company has been doing some very stupid things and that has me incenced.

Not sure how to phrase my feelings; maybe something like a fan flaming the product he uses? Perhaps more that I'm expressing impatience with the company, or more specifically, the people in charge of it. Oh well, I'll go to a corner and sulk a while by myself.

Naaa The best revenge especially when the attack is someone with Aspbergers is to ignore them completely....it litterally drives them wild...it's part of the syndrome. I know two people personally who suffer with this disease....they have a tough time.

Someone was mentioning that Fanboi's tell you the real deal about the company.....which is about as wrong as you can be. Being a fanboi means you have lost your objectivity and have completley closed off a non-biased look at the competitors. And I have to say, 9 times out of 10 the people flaming and ranting...usually have no concept of what "Business" really is.

Of course this is all just one persons opinion here.

Of course this is all just one persons opinion here.

It's interesting what you say. I'm not trying to cause them any more pain, just educate them regarding civil interaction. I'd actually not want to drive one of them wild! It'd be great if somehow I knew the magic words to soothe them! I'm serious.

I don't really take offense, becuase you see, I'm 44, and I've seen a lot of life, and I can't really take the name-calling, strawmen, etc., to heart. My heart is full from so many people in my life, and our new baby here.

So I'd actually rather give them some peace, and yet somehow let them know the personal attacks don't work well in life.

Could be there's no way to do both at once.

Regarding Aspbergers, you may be right, because it's more common than people think, and often the person with it is going to be talented in other areas, like math or whatever, geeks. Some close friends have a child with Aspbergers who is 10 now, and he's a character. He [edit] has an unusual and sometimes challenged social sense, but he does have a kind of unique humor and I actually find some of his humor amusing when we visit. He loves to play board games, and we play in a group, and he often wins, even though I'm good at those games, and am trying! :)

So I have a certain sympathy for Aspbergers, and knowning this kid, it's possible for them to be pleasant enough, in the right circumstances. His parents are well suited, easy going, and are doing a great job.
