Hello all,

I want to buy a new pc for some time now, but with so many new stuff, I am kind of lost.

I am planning to put in the new Geforce 8800 GTX in it, so my first question is ; is the E 6700 the best choice right now? ( i dont do overclocking ) or should i go quad?

Second is, i have no idea what motherboard i should use, i want the best one possible though, because i want to create a heavy gaming platform
which i want to keep on using for at least 3 years.

Finally i would really like to receive suggestions of which Power Supplier, casing, memory and silent coolers i should buy.

Thanks in advance,

Ron Drinkwaard

We need a bit more info:

-what's your budget?
-is this JUST for gaming (cuz then don't bother with a quad-core OR a 6700, just get a 6600 at most)
-what resolution will you be gaming at, and do you already have that monitor, or still have to buy it?
-is monitor included in your budget?
-do you want liquid cooling?

Post that info and you'll get help alot quicker ;)

ok lets see

I want to spent a maximum of 2000 euro's.
It's just for gaming now.
I don't need a monitor, mine goes with to a max resolution of 1280, which is fine for me.
I probably will buy a new one, but that's not going to be until 2008.
And i don't know about liquid cooling, is it really better and safe?

hope this helps!

greetings!

Well, you don't need liquid cooling. Stick with a good high-end heatsink and you'll do just fine there.

Another thing to consider: the 8800GTX is overkill for gaming at 1280 resolution. You're better off getting the 8800GTS instead.

And I have no clue about Euro pricing, sorry. But there are many qualified people here that are, I'm sure they can help out.

Good luck!

ok i'll wait for their opinion then

2000 Euros gives you a lot of headroom...

Personally I try to purchase components for tomorrow vs today. You know that hardware has a brief shelflife, and if you can afford it then get the best...just my opinion... and with that said... even an e4300 would be plenty to run all your games paired with a 7900 or 1950 card.

For choosing the components I suggest:

Motherboard - any of these chipsets: 680i, 650i, 965, 975 - To start. Goto Newegg.com (I say this because the site is very easy to navigate and find information on specs and reviews). Start going through motherboards and find some you think are what you want... then post them back here.

You can't do better than the 8800GTX right now. So if you don't plan on spending the 500euros to get it... then choose from the 7000 series cards and post them.

The Processor should be at least a dual core... Currently Intel holds the reigns... The E6700 you asked about is very good... the X6800 is even better.

Power supply should be considered after you have all your parts considered... I don't have the link, but I am sure someone here can provide the link to the power supply Teir listing... which will show what each teir offers as far as quality and rating.

Just do a little more research and narrow down what you are after, and then post those options here.

Good Luck

Don't get an E6700 or higher, these uber processors will do little good except burning a deep hole in your wallet; if you're really bent on spending that kind of money for the best gaming experience, get some kickass peripherals! High-quality speakers can alone satisfy all your spending needs and they'll last as long as you'll need them.

So E6600 is really the best processor there is. Get it.
8800GTX is fine if you really have the budget, honestly I think you would be more than satisfied with a GTS but again if you don't like money well that's a nice way to get rid of it fast I guess.
If you want a good mobo I can reccomend the ASUS P5N-SLI, should be a good value even in Europe, at least it's high quality, good overclocker, solid reputation dadada.
Antec Trio 550W is a nice PSU that should be available around you, not too expensive, will get the job done, won't explode either. FSP-500 and up are also good, bit more expensive though. If it's high quality then 500W is enough; anything 700W and more is either overkill (if it's high quality) or cheap, and will explode.
