Quite often, tech junkies, like myself, have 2, 3, 4+ PCs of their own. How many do you currently have?

I currently have 5 working PC's (and they are all being used):

- P3 800EB, 512 Mb RAM
- P2 450, 384 Mb RAM (firewall)
- K6/2 300 @ 366MHz, 256 Mb RAM (fax, printer, file sharing)
- K6/2 300 @ 366MHz, 256 Mb RAM (used for browsing)

3 Servers
4 Workstations

Reply to MISRy

I have three right now. It was 4 but I gave an old P3 away. I actually have no more Intel as my Intel laptop died.

Reply to BaronMatrix

Actually, I came to the conclusion that having that many PC's is actually my fault.

I simply cannot sell my old hardware. There have been very few times in my life I disposed of old hardware.

The 5 listed are working, but I still have a plethora of components that could be built into fully working machines (mobo, CPU, ram, HD, case, psu, etc, etc, etc). Most of them are P2, K6-2 and previous generations.

Reply to Simonetti

i have three although i only use the one in my sig. my oldest one a xp1800, 1 gig ram and a 9700pro is now my parents, i also have a laptop, p43.2ghz, 2 gigs ram and a mobility 9800 pro which again is with my parents. i found i didn't use the laptop that much once i got this machine so they now have the laptop downstairs and the older one upstairs.

so technically, i only have one.

I can't get rid of hardware either. My lowest specced was a 486SX25, until I used its case as a mounting/weather shield for my projector.

Now the lowest is a 486SX33 ;)

Whenever I get a new computer my sister or parents get an upgrade(my old computer). So I always have one computer... well for a few weeks I had 2, but then gave my old one to my sis...

All purpose (AMD 64 3500+)

Just one PC - Opteron 165 @ 2.75GHz, 74Gb Raptor, 1GB RAM, X1800XT.

I just buy bits at a time and add them to it, and sell the old bits as I upgrade. Makes it cheap :)

Some parts are extremely old though, like my ancient generic beige ATX case which harks back from when ATX came out (PII I think?).

Got a work laptop, but that ain't mine and it's a snail-pace Pentium M 1.3GHz. Yuk!

I have the one that I use for everything. Although I was thinking of getting a notebook so I can run Matlab at uni.

Reply to Thorax

Hmm good question.

Pentium (1) 133mhz sittin on work bench with Windows 98 w/DOS
2x HP UNIX B2000 boxes
P-III with Windows 98SE
4x P-4 with XP Pro

Notebook from HP that Im not sure of the processor for the wife running XP

and an Alienware 7700 Notebook as a desktop replacement.

So 10 in all not counting the Ipaq's
only the laptops and the 4 P4's actually get a LOT of use
the UNIX boxes I use for work related things.

We have enough spare parts to build one or two more if we were so inclined. Our plan is scrapping a lot of the old hardware and machines in October and just ordering custom Falcon Mach V's for each of us.

Ajfink sounds like us :)

See the signature block.

Also a P233MMX running at 300 Mhz - mostly for old games.
2.6 Ghz P4 system, home in Texas
HP notebook.
A slide rule in a glass covered, wooden shadow box on the wall with a sign:
"In case of power failure, break glass."

Three I don't use - 850 and 950 Mhz AMD Durons and an Intel 500 Mhz PIII. These have been built for giveaways. Over here, you CAN give away PIII grade systems.

Two questions from J. S. Casteel's Geek Test (with apologies to Jeff Foxworthy):

1. If you have more computers in the house than people, you might be a geek.
2. If you have a home network and you live alone, you might be a geek.
