Is there a cable or some kind of adapter that allows you to connect a
usb drive to a Pocket PC?

I think it would be a good idea if someone could design this if it
doesn't already exits

But with 1GB SD cards maybe no one needs it?

most pocket pc's do not have "USB host" capabilities so usb drives won't
work. i think some of the fujitsu pocket loox have host and some of the older
toshiba's do too.... but a storage card with a usb adapter for your computer
is still faster.

I think the problem is that a USB host must meet the USB specification, part
of which is that it must be capable of supplying a certain amount of power -
a precious commodity on a Pocket PC. I think Toshiba did once provide this,
but it has been notable by it's absence on subsequent models.

As you have suggested, using cards is a reasonable alternative. If you have
a Pocket PC with dual slots, you can have 2GB right away. And that's before
you start adding microdrives...

That will bring up info. But they are CFII devices, you need the
relevant card slot.

Microdrives were a hot topic when then PPC was first released in 2000
and 64meg CF cards were a couple hundred dollars so they were popular to
meet high storage needs in devices such as the ipaq's with a battery
assisted pcmcia sleeve that could keep it alive for extended use.

Battery drain coupled with the dropping cost of high capacity flash
memory which demands very little power by comparison and is not shock
sensitive pretty much overshadowed the microdrive's use in ppc's.

I have a Pocket Loox 720 and I can connect USB flash drives to the USB Host
cable that comes with it.

Earlier on today I also succesfully connected my Fujitsu 80GB 2.5 inch Hard
Disk drive. I did install the 2.5 inch IDE into an external USB 2.0 case
first though. It is quite amazing having 80GB of storage space available to
such a small device. There are power issues but this is solved by using
either an extra battery pack or a USB encasing that has built in Lion
battery.

The portability does not suffer much when you use either a 1.8" or 2,5" Hard
Disk with built in Lion Battery. These hard drives are tiny and the extra
storage available is useful.

The Toshiba cable has a "Side Plug" that enables you to connect your
AC adapter . You could connect a pack of four AA size batteries
instead giving you about 2000 mA hours (at least 4 HDD hours).

The Toshiba cable sells for only 5 $ in the USA but it does not ship
to Europe.

Could anybody help me to get one?
