I would say that SATA RAID0 in whatever drive model would definately have to be a must. As for the rest...I think you can go pretty much high end on everything and still be smoking fast in a year or 2 (although, not the "best of the best" in 2 years...still respectable.) Be sure to buy upgradable board and RAM (C2D to Quad or more; have to look hard) but future proof as much as possible. RAID and drives can easily be used in an upgrade system.

Yes; future-proof is good, and I recommend RAID 0 highly as well. Keep in mind that you can RAID 0 more than 2 drives. Personally, I'd go with 4 15k 36GB SAS drives for the most throughput.

lol. Indeed. they're not at all quiet.

I had one of the first 10k SCSI drives, and I tell you, once you turned it off it was like leaving the club. It was like, "Wow. It's quiet...."
