hi,

next time you might want to try the Graphics section.

and no, halo 2 is not DX10. DX10 won't be a requirement for any game for a long, long time. If history is any indication, DX10 will be required in about 2 years (that's how long it took for DX9 to be required from DX8)

While Halo 2 for PC won't require DX10 hardware, you will need DX10 installed on your system - which is why it's going to be a Vista-only game (atleast for now).

XBOX or XBOX 360

That is, if you want to play Halo 2 that bad. Otherwise, there's always friends :D

I hope the PC version of this game will not suck. They haven't released too much details about this game and the release date is pretty close. I mean i know it is just a port, but still i would like to see some ingame videos or something of the PC version.

Bingo. Perhaps it's because MS wants people to upgrade to Vista? :D

Yeah, I thought Halo for the PC was pretty lame (compared to xbox version I just never got in to it). And with Halo 3 being hyped it seems lame that they are just finally going to release #2 for the PC.

Yeah well all we get from Microsoft as far as games goes is the chewed bones because all the good stuff is going to their precious XBOX.
Oh well there's going to be plenty of good games to play in 2k7 anyways.

Halo 2 still holds the record for most copies sold in 24hrs.

I thought Halo was OK for PC. It didn't run very well, but it was fun.

I'm not a console gamer at all, and Halo for PC will always hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to the FPS genre. Before that, I was an RTS guy.

As far as using Halo 2 to sell Vista, I'm not sure how well that's going to work, seeing as that an XBox360 costs as much as Vista.

Well, the "didn't run very well" part was what turned me away from it. :D

Halo was my first FPS after years away from gaming and I was blown away by it at the time and still enjoy the on-line games but I have since played FarCry and Half Life 2 which in terms of graphics and AI are light years ahead. If H2 is as good as these latter games then it will be great, if not we may end up being disappointed and I still won't go buy and X-box or Vista just so I can play it.

Here's a general FAQ regarding Halo 2 Vista. I personally hold that this game is more than capable of running on XP, Microsoft simply wants to sell more copies of Vista. Watch someone hack the game to make it playable on XP  .

I swear does the only link on your screen that works the one that says CPUs or are you just that lazy to scroll down to the graphics section?

Of course it's capable of running on XP. But I seriously doubt anyone is going to run out and buy a $250 copy of Vista just so they can buy and play Halo 2. You can get an entire Xbox system and the game for less than that! LOL.

I hate M$.

That'd be great if someone hacked it though.

Now if the game were DX10... I might consider upgrading sooner.

Too bad the PS2 and Xbox emulators for PC never worked out. Doubt we'll see any serious attempts at 360 or PS3 emu's. So much for the possiblity of having the cake and eating it too.

What happened w/ those? I remember some real progress w/ a PS2 emulator, but that was a long time ago. Seems like Xbox would be easiest... but only a few games worked on that.

But yeah, days of the emulator are dead. SNES and NES games are still fun to play though.

They've got solid PS1 and Gamecube emu's working, but I guess the guys working on the PS2 and Xbox emus got tired. Understandable, and no bashing of those guys, that was a hard task trying to reverse engineer emulators for no money.

The PS2 Emu and the rest can be found here. MAME still survives and kicks arse for anyone who liked the old arcade games.

Nice link turpit. Do you know how well these work? What are the limitations on the Xbox and PS2 emulators?

The Xbox and PS2 emus are pretty much a bust. Sadly, not worth the time spent downloading them. For whatever reason, developement on them eventually stopped. They got a few game working poorly, most notably Halo, but nothing signifcant beyond that according to what Ive read. On the other and, earlier console emus have been much more succefull.

If you look at the old arcade games, the problems is clear. A galaxian game has less computational power than todays average pocket calculator, but power is dedicated to a single purpose. No file system formats, communication protocols etc etc etc. Trying to work within an OS (DOS windows or Linux) to simulate dedicated processing is a painfull process in reverse engineering. The most sucessful emus are for the oldest systems, i.e arcade games as they are the simplest. Even so, games like Tekken, Street fighter II, or mortal combat brought my old AMD 1900XP to its knees. Its pretty typical of Emus that they require a lot more CPU power than the system they are trying to emulate, to overpower the 'drag'of the systems OS.

With developement halted on the x box/PS 2 emus, it doesnt look like we'll ever see sucsessful emus for any later consoles

go hook up your computer to a TV and play Prey or FEAR. Then come back and tell me how much the PS3 rocks. Consoles look better because they're designed for standard definition and/or "half ass" HD. (i call 720p half ass because real HD is 1080i/p)

At any rate your monitor is likely displaying at least the equivalent of 720p.

Stuff tends to look less glamourous on a computer screen because the screen displays more detail.
