I installed Win 2000 Pro SP4 in TOSHIBA Satellite P35 which has built in
ATI MOBILE RADEON 9000 display adapter. The result was low grade
resolution display. Device manager tells no display adapter installed. I
downloaded driver file from ATI and installed. Result was computer crush
showing just black screen. When examined in Safe Mode, Device Manager
tells existence of the RADEON adapter in Display Adapter all right, but
Properties states that no drivers are installed. But Driver tab shows
ATI drivers.
I wonder whether the MOBILE RADEON 9000 is incompatible with Win 2000 or
whether there is a way to install drivers for the adapter correctly. I
know the RADEON is compatible with WinXP. MicroSoft Hardware
Compatibility List states that this video adapter works with WinXP but
no information about its compatibility with other OS.
Can someone help me solving this problem?

I'm not sure if this is related, but I have a Radeon 9200 and Win2k.
The newer Radeon drivers gave me similar problems (black screen after a
while, even though the computer was still running okay - could connect
to it remotely, etc.) I went back to an earlier version of the Radeon
driver, and it has worked fine for quite a while.

I seem to have no trouble with the newer drivers and WinXP - only Win2k.

The drivers that I use are version 6.14.10.6444 dated 4/21/2004
(I use the older style control panel, not the one that uses .NET)

The downloaded files have the following numbers in the filename:
8-01-040421a-015419c, and are at the following link:

Sorry - that link doesn't seem to go all the way there - you need to open
up the menus on the left and look for Win2000/Radeon/Previous drivers, then
the following near the bottom of the page:

RADEON Previous Windows 2000 Drivers and Software versions prior to
CATALYST 5.1 / Multimedia Center 9.03

You need to get mobile radeon drivers from your PC manu.web site, ATI does
not supply mobile radeon drivers. The drivers are specific to PC manu.laptop
