Toms has just revealed that ocz is now makeing their own version of the 8800 gfx cards. According to ocz, the hand select the cards to make them more overclockable. This is going to be interesting, as ocz is known to bring quality at an affordable price.

Any thoughts?

I think they'll be a nice adition to OCZ's line-up, tough I think they should have gone with some innovation on it (maybe a custom hsf).

They might be quite a bit more expensive than the others on market (hand picking will probably make the availability quite low - unless they get really cheap asian labor to work 18 hours a day in order to have tons of cards available).

Cant wait to see how they stack up to evga, which is my preference when it comes to nvidia cards. would like to see some factory overclocks from them as well...I have always liked those.

Best,

Oh well, i like OCZ but i already bought a BFG 8800gtx and adding another here soon. Should be nice cards though. OCZ is a good company with great products and even better support.

Yep thats nice to knoe that they will be hand picking the card insted of O/C ing just any old sample. And i would like to see how these fair aginst other O/S versions like the XXX and the W/C BFG 8800

They should be great overclockers, as OCZ is using some great memo chips.

Also, from what I heard from OCZ, they intend on bringing some interesting stuff after this first release. :)

Reply to sviola

hmm, well I personally like xfx more than evga when it comes to gfx cards, they oc the cards higher, so you don't have to, meaning you get to keep your warranty

I agree on the memory, ocz does a good job of bring performance to an affordable level

This is going to really interest me, because I don't think the other big names are going to be happy about this, because next thing you know, ocz will be offering a good motherboards at an affordable level too

I'm excited because OCZ is a pretty big name in computer parts and hand-picked factory overclocks = good, although I shudder to think about the price of these cards. Hopefully OCZ will bring some great values to the market.

It will be very interesting indeed. Be very hilarious if they dont work well with Asus boards like their ram doesn't most of the time...

Yeah,I bought their ram(2sets) and 3 psu's .Lemme make a prediction.More high pricing and soon to be less support. invariably happens to all companies who get the fat head, and expands into many diff. product lines.(rma wise, look how many hoops they make you jump through now  )In their defense though (OCZ)I know that there is alot of ass@#$% people that take advantage of their(generous) warranty service that caused this.you see them (same type) idiots posting their stupidity at New egg reviews.

Reply to VChuck

Well, see, you can't necessarily blame ocz for the asus problem. The problem actually isn't with compatibility, the problem actually is from the very specific IC (not quite sure, but they are not promos, as they can do 500mhz+, guessing a less binned Micron IC). The problem actually comes from the fact that their JDEC standard requires the ram to run at 2.1volts for stability. In general, the easiest fix is that you only put in one stick at a time to raise the voltage in the bios. Usually that works, but sometimes you have to buy some cheap $20 value to bump up the voltage to 2.1 to get it running, as the qulity is there, its just that asus mobos are set to run auto @ 1.8 volts and not a more stable 2.1.

Amen to that. Sometimes I can't even believe how incredibly wrong the people that do newegg reviews are.

Reply to Valtiel

You won't believe what some of those idiots say, here's something I had posted in a different thread

Quote :

I was looking some of the conroe reviews @ newegg, and some of the people there are complete idiots, like for the x6800
I paid more than 100.00 more when i bought it. if you get a good stepping, you might be able to hit 4MHz

I think I have already achieved that with am2, that guy paid a bit too much for 3mhz

and here's some for the presler extreme

Quote :

Definitely not upgrading to Core 2 any time soon!

who owuld buy this when the conroes have already been released?

Quote :

Remember, this is not a pentium4 processor, its a pentium extreme edition 965 presler.

that's funny, people actually think its defferent from the pentium 4 northwoods ( or whatever the 65nm was)

The fastest processor currently on the market. You can't trust random benchmarks from the tech websites since they don't measure real world performance. That's all that matters. I got tricked into getting the Core 2 X6800 by what everyone else was saying and when using both my PCs side-by-side, this one is defintely faster even though it has less RAM.

that person is just plain stupid

I don't know how anybody can ignore this, but this processor is clocked at 3.73 GHz whereas the Core 2s aren't even clocked at 3ghz. OBVIOUSLY this is gonna be faster! Intel is making big mistake by thinking people won't notice that the new processors are so much slower. I mean, some of those new ones are only 2Ghz! I am extremely happy with my purchase of this.

ha! I almost cried

this is great, you really should see how stupid some of the reviewers @ newegg are

Here's a good one that involves the 8800GTX

Quote :

Pros: At this very moment being 12/22/2006, yes it is truelly the best video card out.

Cons: This is the very first DirectX 10 card, and thas what your putting your money into, aside from it being 384-bit and what not. Because there are other 384-bit cards out.

Other Thoughts: If you understand what DirectX 10 will allow game makers to do with games, then you will know that DirectX 10 alone will allow more individual objects to be placed in one frame, as well as more pixels and what have you.DirectX 9 is actually holding back todays graphic cards. When Vista comes out, just wait for new revised DirectX 10 7800 GT's and X1900's to come out.

To which I just had to reply (because I'm evil  ):

Quote :

Pros: Very good card, its unified shader architecture really does an excellent (and efficient!) job of rendering every game at max settings with a lot of overhead in frames per second

Cons: Drivers have yet to mature but meh, its only been what 2-3 months since these cards came out.

Other Thoughts: Not sure what the reviewer 2 below me was talking about. As far as I know 7800GTs are not going to be revised for DX10. nVidia however will be releasing 8600's soon. also I dont think he knows what a memory interface is and there are most definitely not any other cards out that utilize a 384-bit memory interface. The GTS is 320-bit if he was assuming it was 384-bit. One more thing: don't worry about there not being drivers for Vista. Vista is still in beta so there would be no point to release drivers for an OS that's still having changes made to it as there would be severe compatibility issues with an OS that is changing too much.

Reply to Valtiel

yeah, as I said, people there need to learn a thing or two about computers, and intel knows it. That's why the pentium ee 965 is still over 1k

i'm gonna ask my dad if i can have one. i don't have a phone yet but i think this would be perfect for starters. how perfect is this phone going to be? will it have an intel inside? that would make it more perfect. just wait for windows to make a copy like winphone or phzunedows. mac is always better because they use intels.

MY god, it gets better every time...
and btw: my guy totally tears you a new one in terms of stupidity.

meh, your guy is just young, I don't think its really fair to call him stupid, as you can tell by the way he wrote the review, I'm guessing 10-13 (not fourteen, because I'm fourteen and I know a hell of a lot more about computers than that guy)
