TFTP.exe

I am trying to load Service Pack 4 on Window 2000 Exchange Server (from a
disk that I ordered from Microsoft) and I keep getting an error that says
TFTP.exe Set up can not copy this file. Ensure that th location specified
below is correct or change it and insert 'Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 source
files" in the drive you specify. I change the location and tried again. I
can not get it to load. How do I load Service Pasck 4?
Thanks,
Cheryl

Sounds like you might have a bad disk or a problem with your CD_ROM. You can
download and install Windows 2000 SP4 from Windows update.

I tried to load it that way also but it says that it can not copy that file.

Dump the contents of the IE Temporary Internet Folder cache (TIF)
start --> settings --> control panel --> internet options --> delete files
Open a Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt type the following...
CHKDSK C: /F
If it replies..
"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?
(Y/N)"
Choose - Y
type; EXIT
Reboot the PC.
A full Check Disk will want to be performed, allow it.
When it reboots, perform a defragmentation of the hard disk.
You can get to the Defragmenting program easily by executing; dfrg.msc
Start --> run ->
type; dfrg.msc
After this is done, try to reinstall SP4.

Reset the permissions on that file just let it take on the permissions of the parent. Someone did that to make sure it could not be accessed by hackers. A very good thing actually.

ok so now when I try to download Service Pack 4 it says that ftp.exe and
tftp.exe files are corrupt. How do I fix those?
Thanks

If you performed a complete Check Disk and now FTP.EXE has the same problem as TFTP.EXE, I
am *very* suspicious that malware has crept into your computer.
Dump the contents of the IE Temporary Internet Folder cache (TIF)
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Delete Files
Dump the contents of the Mozilla FireFox Cache
Tools --> Options --> Privacy --> Cache --> Clear
1) Download TrendMicro Sysclean by other of the following 2 methods
Trend Sysclean Method 1
---------------------------------------
Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp
Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\sysclean" )
Download SYSCLEAN.COM and place it in that directory.
Download the signature files (pattern files) by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt592.zip
Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
SYSCLEAN.COM.
Trend Sysclean Method 2
---------------------------------------
Download the utility SYSCLEAN_FE at the following URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm
SYSCLEAN_FE automates the download and execution process of the Trend Sysclean Package.
Direct URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Sysclean_FE.exe
2) Download Ad-aware SE (free personal version v1.05)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Update Ad-aware with the latest definitions.
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode and shutdown as many applications as possible.
4) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Ad-aware, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
* * Please report back your results * *

Right-click the file | Properties | Security | check Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object. But if you want to be a safe Windows 2000 user remove ALL permissions from it after you apply the Service Pack.

to copy them but I can not see them. Any ideas?
Thanks,

These files are in C:\WINNT\system32. I don't think they are hidden files but enable viewing system and hidden files to be sure. Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options... | View. Also sign in as Administrator.

Go to the location that I told you C:\WINNT\system32 in the command prompt Start | Run | cmd | OK.
Then enter these commands after you type them hit ENTER
cd\
cd WINNT
cd system32
Now I want you to do this:
ftp
what happens? If you get a ftp session hit ctrl-BREAK
and then type this:
attrib ftp.exe
Tell me the result of that.
All Windows products come with a FTP program. If you do not get a find on ftp or attrib tftp.exe returns "Not found" we can always extract them from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or Service Pack so don't get upset. I'll need to know your Service Pack you are at SP3 I assume.
