E6400 overclocking
Forum CPU & Components : CPUs - E6400 overclocking
Hi, I'm planning to build a new rig:
ABIT AB9, P965
Core 2 Duo E6400
Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 2048MB (2x1024)
...............
How high can I overclock it using the stock fan?
Thanks.
Ewwwww... I don't like the memory... that might limit you some...
Also, its going to depend on case cooling, and just how lucky you are, but I can say you'll probably be able to reach to prolly 2.5... more if you use better memory and have a decent amount of case airflow. The mobo is decent, that should work fine.
Actually I don't plan to overclock this too much, I want to bring it to E6700's performance level...do I need better memory for that?
Your going to need at least some high end ddr2-667 ram that you can overclock to 400mhz, or ddr2-800. I got my 6400 running @ 415mhz x7 with minor over-voltage on the cpu and not touching the ram, I know it will go higher, I am being very conservative.
The best you might get with cheap ram is 2664mhz. Remember, in most cases concerning memory, you get what you pay for.
I would suggest DDRII-667, that will allow you to bring the cpu to the exact speed of the E6700(2.66ghz) while running 1;1 with the ram at DDR667(FSB 333).
I like Kingston Value ram, works like a charm. Crucial is also really good in the mainstream segment.
Afternoon Labbbby. I've been thinking. And I'm trying to figure out when someone would get good performance with DDR2 1066
Afternoon Ninja, Haven't talked in a while, was away for the weekend!
Well except for super High OC with fancy cooling, I don't think it would be usefull to have 1066/1111 Ram. And it probably doesn't run any better with memory divider...
A E6300 would be at 3733MHz running one one, can they go this far?
What about the 'true' Allendale, maybe it could be pushed this far..?
Oh and on a side note, just spent 286$ on a SilverStone TJ09, black with window, ouch, this case better be next to me 5 years from now!!!
Man... 300 for a case... I can't do that, the nine-hundred seems to work just fine. After I put in my Delta 190 CFM fan, I'll have a whopping 350 CFM of exhaust (and 150 CFM of intake... I really need to figure something out...)
I couldn't do it either, yet I did it! I consider it an investement. I hope that and my 700W PSU will stick with me for ~ years.
Compare that to my usual 3 Years, it should be good. Also if treated well this Case will still be worth ~200$ in a couple of year... And the 900 didn't cut it, nor did the NZXT or the P180 or the Lian-li.
In the end, it was worth the extra $ over a Stacker.
$300 on a case? I don't even spend that much on cases.
OK, thanks.
LOL, when our resident millionare doesn't spend that much on a case, that tells you something
Nah, it is a real nice case, I'd pick it up in a jiffy if it dropped in price (dropped quite a bit =P) But post pics once you're done. We can then all go ooh and aah...
And ooh again.
Shameless plug alert: Check the blog. I finally got of my lazy ass and reviewed something again.
Meh... console review... too lazy to even read through it, since there's way too many of them and I'm not a console gamer... sorry Ninja, but nice picks...
Samurai Champloo soundtrack... trying to think if I have it... I know I have roughly 100 gig's of anime soundtracks, so I should have it... meh, didn't like the series all that much, so no biggie.
Give me a month and I'll review the qx6700 against 4x4. If it ever comes out [/bait]
YAY! I out spent Ninja
*Runs around throwing 20$ bills*
W0000t.
Yeah that crap is way to expensive, it will bring my overall system at 3000$Can which is not that bad considering I got 1K from my old one, I will get a 22" wide screen that should fit pretty well with my current 19" 4:3.
But heck I intend to keep that case forever =)
What 22" did you get? I see a westinghouse 22" for sale at Best Buy 200 bucks... and I'm REALLY REALLY tempted to jump on it... any ideas peeps?
The answer to your question is contained in this article:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/10/cheap_thrills/
Cheapest 22" (1680x1050) that I can find is the Acer......$365 @ DirectCanada.
Is that $200 US I would assume?
I'm looking to add a 22" 16:10 to my 19" 4:3 as well......the Westinghouse is nice but am having a bit of a hard time finding here in Canuckland. I think I saw it on NCIX for $400-something......? The Acer seems to be getting fairly favorable reviews, considering its price.

.... Meh.
8)
Got a meh from that Ninja, made my day
Joke aside, this case better be good =), screw the stacker =)
@Doughbuy , I am leaning toward a new ViewSonic, I can get it for ~410$(CAN) and it seam to be a notch over the ACER.
I am looking at the Samsung you told me about, the Acer and the ViewSonic.
WTH is westinghouse? don't know if I trust these.
Damn I like those thread Hijack with Dough et Ninja
Yeah, good ol Black Friday deal. Best Buy is selling it for 200. Circuit City is selling Samsung 225BW for 280, and CompUSA is selling the same Samsung for 300...
I like Samsung more than Westinghouse, but a 100 dollar difference is hard to beat...
It's easy to outspend Ninja. If your name begins with Bill and ends with Gates...
Err where do you get that price?
CC
Should it go down after Thanksgiving?
Oh and I see a new Acer AL2223Wd, vs the 2216...Think it's updated version with 800:1 contrast

ehh. cause I'm too tired to give you a meh. The idiots at work somehow managed to shut down the file server. Seriously, whats with kids these days? If its not trying to get to porn and MySpace thru proxy or Google porn (kind of easy to stop) its breaking different pieces of equipment and pissing the absolute hell out of me.
Lol, those kids...use to do that in high school, fun fun...Not anymore though
I think they do this because they know I'm not much older than they are. The devious little bastards. There goes another one trying to access porn again. You know what, I'm just going to shut down Internet access to the labs.
Is it really that noisy?

Pretty much the best ram for the $$$ was the limited 10yr anniversary edition crucial ram. $229.00 for 2 gigs and since it was limited I went ahead and bought 4gigs because it would suck later down the road if I had to add more memory and could not get those.
People have hit some crazy over clocks with tight timings on this ram.
Stock its ddr2 667mhz 3 3 3 12
I have it running at ddr 972mhz with 4 4 4 5 timings rock stable! I have actually gotten it up to 1100mhz under these same timings just too see how far I could push it.
System specs:
E6400@3.4ghz 1.325vcore P95stable 14+hrs
Crucial ddr2 ram@972mhz 4 4 4 5
Soundblaster Audigy 4
BFG 8800GTX
Just for fun a few pics of Oblivion running on my system
1280X1024 8XAA 16AF+HDR and driver settings on High Quality.
I am @&^$(*$ pissed I didn't jump the gun when it was 240$ on newegg, now I don't know what to get!
Yeah that'll teach them!
Whats the school policy on such thing? Now that I'm in college nobody dares to do crap because there is much tighter monitoring and people get expelled pretty easily for that kind of crap

I bet you are. I know I would have been kicking myself right now if I didnt get them.
The school policy is that there is technically no actual blocking as in we don't have blocking software, because those are far to discriminating and end up cause my department more trouble than good. Since the school is part of the college, they aren't allowed to do such either. But since they do have there own labs set aside for the students, we can practice selective blocking there. Convoluted yes, but its better than the alternative.
Oh well, makes you work a bit =), it's all good!
Congrats on the Ancient Poster...

Black friday deals my man, I'm gonna end up staying the night outside one of these stores (Either Circuit City, CompUSA, Best Buy or Fry's). Fry's by far has the best deals, but it's not out yet, comes out on Thanksgiving day. If you don't have a Fry's though... kinda SOL...
If ya'll don't do Black Friday up in Canada, just jump the border and camp down here. Best deals of the year.
I would work at our ITS, but the pay is shiat, and I don't want to deal with dumbass buisness majors every day =P
Not to mention 70k+ people... calling you for help... just shoot me...
Ok sweet thanks for the heads up!
Thanksiving was a month+ ago in Canada, and it really not a big deal(a least for french canadians). I am in the USA up to ~December 16th...so I am trying to get the good deals before returning, Ill be using my car so I can back it up =)
You weird Canuks...
Yeah, Black Friday is usually the day with the best deals all year. But you have to arrive about 4-5 hrs before store opening to get in on most of the deals. Usually not a problem for me though, got quite a few friends going.
I have a Westinghouse refrigerator and it keeps everything nice and cool...hopefully the monitors also are cool. Not sure though.
