I'm thinking about building a C2D system with a GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3.

Anyone have any general thoughts about getting this particular Mainboard?

Here's the system I'm thinking about putting it in:

I had two of them, the first one had a small circuit or something on it fry after being powered up the second one had a raid/ide driver problem. On the second one it ran good but I had two dvd burners installed but could only burn to one of them when trying the SCSI drivers, then one of Gigabyte`s tech support guy said to use the raid/ide drivers, which I tried, followed his instructions exactly and after doing so my two dvd burners wouldnt even show up in my computer, not even in device manager under the dvd/cd drives list. The Gigabyte tech guy told me that I had another defective board.

I looked at some of the components you picked and on most of it alot of other people would be more knowledgable then I, but I do alot of dvd burning and beta testing of a few dvd burning programs, as for the dvd burner you selected I would personaly go with either the new Samsung S182M burner, excellent burner but the only drawback is that if you want to change the booktype of a +R or a +RW or +R DL disc to read as a dvd-rom disc for better playback compatibility you can use a program like Nero Cd/Dvd Speed Tools but you have to set it prior to each burn, then there is the Plextor 760A which is also another excellent burner and can be booktyped with Nero or Plextools for +R & +R DL media to read as dvd-rom, once set it stays untill you change it back if you want to, a couple of other excellent burners are the BenQ 1650 or 1655, the only difference between those two is one supports Lite Scribes discs which can be pricey and supports bitsetting with no problems. The BenQ 1650 & 1655 may be a little hard to find right now. I have all these burners and get really good test results and scores with each of them but for the bitsetting capabilities I prefer the Plextor 760A and the BenQ but the Samsung is just as good but the constant need to set the booktype for each burn is its biggest drawback. Blank dvd media that I reccomend for backing up movies would be Taiyo Yuden Premium Line or Verbatim as for DL media I only use Verbatim DL media.
