OK, so you've won the lottery.
You are looking to buy a new system, and money is no worry.

What would you buy, and why?
Gaming, multi use, porn ???

Example:
-----------

x6800, 7950gx2 x 2, 4gig ram, etc.
also, video in card, to record tv and satellite, etc.
bla bla bla...

I'd buy a Dell and then go to Vegas

I'd buy a Dell and go on an Alaskan Cruise.

Reply to 940Socket2me

I'd start my own computer company! We would build kick ass systems for gamers...uhh well for rich gamers! But since this is a pipe dream I'll just say I would NOT buy a Delly. I'll take TOMS Hardware system that they are going to give to me anyway, rip the gutts out of that ugly ass case and put it into my ARMOR,

And oh yes... GET A LIFE!!!

Reply to NeonDeon

Personally, I'd like to take and build 3 machines and set them into a nice cluster in my basement. They would consist of:

2x AMD Opteron 285 Dual-Core 2.6GHz Processor

Supermicro H8DCE nForce Pro 2200 Dual AMD Opteron DDR E-ATX Server Board w/Dual Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial ATA

2x 150gig Raptors in raid1

8gigs ram

Have them on a nice rackmount and set them up to serve my webpage and several different game servers. not much else needed for that, but it would make life alot easier hosting things lmao.

Reply to Fox_granit

Hmm, I'll have fun with this one.....

I would get a:

Gigagbyte GA-965P-DQ6 Motherboard

A Lian Li Case w/ built in Prommy Phase Change/ I like Armor but this one has built in phase change!!! http://www.crazypc.com/products/PX9290GT.html

Quad Core Extreme Edition

8ghz of dominator memory (top of the line shit!)

x1950 xtx and cf edition

1000watt psu

4x raptor x in raid zero for playing games with a top of the line raid controller

2x raptor 74gb in raid zero for loading OS w/ top of line raid controller

4x Seagate 750 gb hd's in raid 5 w/ top of line raid controller for random stuff, and Music etc.

2x Sony Blu Ray Drives (they are 700bucks each!!!)

Seperate Koolance Exos-2 for cooling hd's

"Killer" modem card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6833342001

There is probbably more over kill i can do but this is just over kill and there is the problem of fitting all the cards but with the phase change cooler i could get quad to do some pretty nice things! (5ghz perhaps????)

x6800 would be a piece of crap when C2Q out
7950gx2 is the same crap when DX10 card out...and continue and continue as technology evolve.
get what i mean ????

screw the comp build...id buy a golden toaster

Reply to muffins

Anything that works.

Reply to angry_ducky

ok, but what do you think of my extreme rig? It would be cheaper than some ghey alienware and "Tom's PC" and would blow theirs out of the water!!

Reply to AlexIrvine

Here's mine:
Athlon 64 3700+
DFI nF4-DAGF
2GB Corsair XMS
256MB X1900XT
320GB Seagate 7200.10
Antec TruePower TPII-550
Maybe a legal copy of Windows

First I would take the wife to South Africa. Show her the view of the Antarctic Sea from the cliffs above Durbin. Goto a few places like that. The Pyramids at Sunset. Victoria Falls at Noon. Time's Square on New Years.

After buying her a house and setting aside a college fund for the kids, she might let me construct this hideous monstrosity:

Intel X6800
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
Dual X1900XTX Crossfire
8 Gigs of Corsair's finest
128 GB Flash Solid-State Hard Drive
1000W PC Power and Cooling PSU
30" Apple Cinema Display
Enough liquid cooling for an aquarium
Throw it all inside this and suddenly that outrageous case no longer seems gaudy, but subdued.

Oh, I'd also preorder this. 8)

Then the fun would begin. 5GHz here I come. A million decimal places of pi, in less than ten seconds? Yes please! Time to swagger around Ironforge like I own the place. Corner the gold market on a server or two, just for fun.

Later I would go buy a car in cash for significantly less than I would have spent on the near-teraflop abomination. Then, I dunno, rig it to run off lawn mower clippings or something. Get a fennec.

Today's dream build is tomorrow's doorstop.
PCs are consumer electronics just like Cell Phones and TVs. Just buy another one when you're not happy with the one you have.

I'd buy the biggest server tower, and have so much bandwith to host games on it. Get a faster internet connection, preferably satelite. Build a top of the line computer. And 2 words: Liquid Nitrogen

I'd probably build eight or ten $1500-$3000 C2D boxes for friends and family. RAM of 1-4 GB, hard disk size, and GPU would depend on the recipient's needs. For example, my sister is not a gamer, so an X800 or 6600 GPU would be enough; but in addition to gaming, Fred is also a Unix hacker (NOT a cracker), so he'd get max everywhere.
For myself, I'd set up a co-hosted TS server on a fat internet pipe for Guild Wars friends and general use, and then build myself a quad-capable C2D machine with 4+ GB of RAM, and a pair of Raptors in RAID-1. A 7600GT would be enough until DX10, then I'd get a near top single card.

this is probably one of the stupidest threads ever, sorry to say.. GET A LIFE!!!

my dream machine would be a machine that could automatically build itself new CPU cores whenever needed and automatically add more RAM to itself whenever needed as well as hard drives. Also, the graphics card would evolve over time, becoming more and more powerful. As for power supply, I'd just hook it up to my electric company and pull the internet from someone else's T3 line. Overtime, this computer would eat Dell, Alienware, Falcon, etc. computers for a midnight snack and laugh at the world as it soon becomes the most powerful computer and starts to encapsulate people, turning them into a source of energy. Jeez... this sounds familiar... Matrix anyone?

This is why people like me just waisted 10 minutes of their life!

Newcomers will end up wasting more and more as this thread gets dumber and dumber.

I'd pay special agents to find a Sega Genesis somewhere in the world and a copy of Street Racer. Then I would play until I win the gold cup.

Oh, and buy a Steinway & Sons grand piano in New York, build a small concert hall in my basement and I would hang out there with my friends.

This thread has reached the area of input where an informative thread such as this one has enough information to resolve a lingering issue with CAP LOCKS being on high setting causing the issue at hand. When settings are the issue at hand I'm pretty sure.
