Wi-Fi = Wireless Fidelity, it is a standard for interoperability, so
that the 802.11 a,b,g equipment made by one vendor is assured to work
with that of another, i.e. a 802.11g basestation will work with a PC
Card of another vendor, Netgear, D-Link, Linksys, Microsoft, Apple all
work with each other.

802.11b upto 11 pbps on the 2.4 Ghz band.

802.11a upto 54 mbps on the 5 GHz band

802.11g upto 54 (or 108) mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and backward
compatible with 802.11b
