Does anyone know of any good computer enthusiast shops in the Chicago area for parts and components and stuff? I'm in the North burbs but would take a ride for a good shop. We've got Comp USA out here which is the closest thing, but no cigar.

Are their showrooms better than a typical CompUSA? Like right now I'm looking for LCD monitors, do they usually have a lot of them on display?

There's always Best Buy (I f*cking hate Best Buy; they charge you 3x on computer parts.)

I don't know what the Fry's are like in Chicago, but if they are anything the ones on the West Coast, we are talking electronics super store heaven.
LCD's on display, the ones out our way have a least 20-30 up and running. And you can have a seat at the concession stand in the middle of the store for a snack while you think about it. :)

Word of warning, when you go into Frys, do your homework first. Don't count on a lot helpful or all knowing sales people hanging around. You have to know pretty much what you want and have your choices narrowed down to a few select items, then make your own choice. Don't let the fact they are going to herd you down a chute like cattle to a mile long row of checkout stands and direct you to the one you "may" approach, or the checkout Nazi that is going to make you prove you paid for everything you just bought 30 seconds earlier as you make your way out the door.

If you never been there, Frys is an experience, but they cannot be beat for the shear volume of parts and selection.
PS They only take cash, debit or credit cards with the VISA or Mastercard logo. Don't take you AMEX card!
