My laptop has a 7800GTX graphics card with DVI-I out. I sometimes like to watch movies at the office with it, and have a 26" wide Dell TV.

The TV works beautifully when I use a normal DVD player or watch TV. But when I try and watch a movie from my notebook to the monitor I have two major problems:

1. The frame rate is horrible. The movies are very choppy.
2. The movie only shows on one monitor at a time. I can not watch the movie on the notebooks 19" widescreen and the 26" Dell TV at the same time. It shows the movie fine on the notebook, but on the TV the movie player (software) screen is blank, no matter what software I try.

I am not so worried about #2, but #1 above is a major one.

I have it set up as a clone image with the laptop display as the primary. I have tried lowering the resolution as well, all the way down to 800x600 and that didn't fix the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

IIRC there's a Full Screen Video Playback section in the drivers, some elections only come up with a second monitor attached, and while playing DVDs. What you want is for the video to play at native resolution (640x480), and to disable it's upconverting abilities so that it's not doing any more work than just playing the video. If you had PureVideo you might be able to upconvert and improve the visual quality without a performance hit, but since you probably don't your machine is trying to make the 640x480 look like the 1280x720 or whatever the resolution of that Dell TV is (better that the TV do that work).

The second issue is due to Macrovision it sounds like. I think the VIDEO MIRROR setting or something similar (may have changed from my FXGO5200 days) is there to help.

Here's a clip from their FAQ about multi-mon playback issues;
