I'm buying a 7600 GT...
Forum Overclocking : Graphics Cards - I'm buying a 7600 GT...
on eBay and I'm currently winning at under £40, probably because it's an OEM part and as such won't have any cables/packaging/software.
I have loads of good games that I want to play on it... Doom 3, Quake 4, Far Cry, Half Life 2 (and EP1). My PC currently has a Radeon x700 which is its worst component. I would consider going for an x1800 or 7900 based card if my PSU was more than 350W, but it's not. I don't play games enough to justify buying a new PSU on top of a graphics card.
1) How much do you guys reckon I should put as a maximum bid on this item?
2) If I lose this auction on eBay, do you guys reckon my Enermax 350W PSU could hack powering an x1800 card? I personally doubt it.
3) Any other card recommendations? I wouldn't mind going for an x850PE if it supported HDR, but it doesn't. I also think the PSU couldn't cope with a 6800.
4) If I end up winning this auction, is it true that the nvidia drivers now automatically overclock your GPU and GDDR?
Cheers,
Andy
I pesonaly suggest you get a better psu and get an MSI nvidia 7600GT because of the massive cooler it has I have one with its stock cooler and it stays at 37C idle and 50C load O/Ced at 611/790x2.

Forget Ebay. This is my suggestion.

The 7600GT would give that card a serious beating.

I agree. But. His 7600GT has no warranty and no guarantee it hasn't been abused (probaly has not). The x800GTO may a bit slower, but it does have a superior 256bit interface. So sure, I agree a 7600GT at 500/1400 or so would beat a x800 GTO at 400/980. When you toss around words like serious beating, I think of Dick the Bruiser. And Dick is the king.
Hi guys, thanks for your replies.
Newegg isn't an option for me, I live in the UK. The best sites for buying stuff over here are (IMO) www.overclockers.co.uk , www.scan.co.uk , www.ebuyer.co.uk and www.overclock.co.uk
I appreciate the advice on buying an x800 but it's not going to hold up long-term like the 7600 will because its chipset doesn't support so many features. The x800 will also require me to get a new PSU.
As regards warranty, the guy has stated on the auction that if the card is DOA then I'll get my money back. If he'd stated this in a reply to a question then it wouldn't be so legally binding as if he wrote it on a listing.
I'm currently winning the card at less than £40. Standard 7600 GTs usually sell for at least £100.
Upgrading the PSU really isn't an option because I just don't play games on my PC much anymore and don't see myself buying any more for a good while. I would like to run the games I already own at a decent pace/resolution though and my current x700 is pants when it comes to Doom3/Quake 4.
Foreget ebay you don't konw in what state the card is and you could waste your money,go for a 7600GT it's good price\performance and even if you get a X800 gto your PSU could handel it Enermax dosent play around when it comes to PSU's 350W is ok just look here and you will see, take a look at the article.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/v [...] ons_6.html
I'm running an evga 7900gt ko on a 350W no prob, could be because my amd doesnt use much power in the first place though. but what im saying is that you may not need another PSU. i also run an overclocked northwood system on a 350W PSU, with a 6800gs.
this, this, this

FORGET EVERYTHING YOU would be mindblowed by the CARD SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON X1800GTO,JUST SHIFT TO ATI ONCE AND YOUR MIND WOULD BE SERIOUSLY CHANGED from nvidia to ati,use this card and you would have a pumping action in the games and if you think of 7600gt you are wrong cause it has the 128 bit memory interface whereas this one has the 256 one and this card beats 7600gt when antiliasing and anistropic filtering is ON (seriously)you would'nt believe me but it's the truth.
But he can't get an X1800GTO for under £40.

Which would you rather have, a faster card or a 256-bit interface?

I use both, fast 128 bit cards and 256 bit cards. I prefer the 256 bit cards. I have a working knowledge of computers, certainly not technical knowledge. I suggested the $89 ATI card because it was cheap (and adequate in my mind compared to an Ebay 7600Gt). I own both 7600GT and x800GTO. Right now I need a new card for my Pentium D 805 Smithfield I built last month. I want to go ATI with this one. I want 256 bit interface for sure. I am thinking x850xt or for around double the price x1800xt. Any thoughts:
Pentium D 805 Smithfield @3.5
Asus Micro P5LD2-VM 945G
OCZ Gold PC5400 667 mhz. 512 x4
WD SATA 74g Raptor
Aspire X-QPack 3 windows
Coolermaster Hyper L3 coppercore H/F
xInfinity 500 PSU
Sony DVD-ROM
Pioneer DVD-RW
Logitech 2.1
I currently use this as a backup rig to my main personal computer. I've mentioned this before, but I have 15 computers running between home and business. Tanks.
There's the X1800GTO for about $200 too.
| Quote : There's the X1800GTO for about $200 too. |
A quick look tells me the x850xt is clocked faster than the x1800GTO. It's a about a hundred cheaper too.

Well if cant buy the atix1800gto then NO PROBLEM man you could go for the SAPPHIRE ATIX1600PRO with a 256-bit interface too 8) SERIOUSLY THIS CARD WOULD ROCK YOU.It supports both dvi and d-sub outputs
hey GUys
What is up with the x1800gto and 7600GT?
Tom's hardware forums said that if i have the money, I should go for x1800GTO since it overclocks better than 7600GT...
but since Im new to GPU overclocking, I tried to find articles on overclocking the x1800GTO but what the hell..I found this http://legitreviews.com/article/313/1/
which results in the 7600GT having better marks for more than half the benchies. I wouldn't want to spend the extra money for a lesser performance card right...
Anyways...is it because the 1800Gto hasnt been overclocked? thats why its a lesser performer than 7600GT at stock conditions? but still if even the overclocking results in only a little performance gain, I would definetely pick the 7600GT..especially when theres a price difference
and of course if you have any websites that has this or on how to overclock the x1800gto, please post it on here thanks!
ATITool. Google it.

The 7600GT is nice but will be a near to low end performance wise this fall when the DX10 cards arrive. Nvidia's G80 is set for september to October and ATI's R600 is comming November for the 80nm and December for the 65nm faster GPU's.
The 7600GT has no warranty possible even for the current owner as OEM's supplyers will only warranty the item for a year. I would question if the current owner has run into this problem and for the card could be DOA or have other problems.
Your power supply can handle a pure 6800 as it does not have any external power connector and rely only on PCiexpress power. Others as GT or Ultra require external power and may not be serviced with a 350 W power...

you'd see that he's hoping to get it for £40, which is less than $89 USD; not only that, but the 7600GT is actually faster than the X800GTO by a great margin.

As far as reading the gosphel of the OP, maybe the guy could post the Ebay link. He should have said, "'I'm getting a used 7600GT for whatever great deal He was hoping for."
Hey heyyou (sorry, I couldn't resist),
I don't play any games with my 7800 GT KO SLI. My cards are the Overclocked version 470/1100. In addition, you have the same CPU 4800+ X2. What kind of games, and computer uses for that matter, do you do with you set up? How well does it perform and what does it perform well on?
Anyway, I use my computer with Pinnacle Studi 9. It does really well with video editing. I have taken tons of vhs video tapes and made DVD copies of them. Other than using this particular computer for that purpose, I store ammunition in it.
Hi guys,
Thanks for all of your replies but please keep the following in mind:
1) Links to stuff on newegg.com are useless to me. Because I live England I recommend you guys look at www.overclockers.co.uk , they have the best prices , as do www.scan.co.uk
2) I suspect that my PSU is already under quite a bit of strain. I'm running a DVD-ROM, dual layer DVD writer, 1 7200RPM and 2 10,000RPM hard drives, 3 80mm fans, 1 12mm fan and a 12mm Zalman CPU cooler. Enermax do make good CPUs, that's why I went for one, but I wanted to use less electricity so I bought a lower Wattage PSU. Do you think that with all of those drives the PSU could still cope with a 7900GT?
Here's the link to the card on eBay : Clicky
I've just been outbid, my max bid was £40 and someone else decided to go a bit higher. I could outbid them later, but I'm starting to think that could be a bad idea...warranties and all.
I'm really against the idea of going for a x800 card. The card will cope well enough with Half Life 2, Doom 3 and maybe Quake 4 but I want to play the rest of the Half Life 2 saga when they're released.
One of you guys said that I should switch from nVidia to ATi but I've been so displeased with the x700 I own...it won't overclock a single MHz, it's a Powercolor x700 Pro 256Mb. I used AtiTool.
I reckon that a VERY overclocked x800 would rival a standard 7600 but an overclocked 7600 would whoop the x800...opinions?
That PSU would power the 7900 GT, I think. Enermax PSU's are decent, and the 7900 GT is a very energy-efficient card. I suggest you try the card on the current PSU, and if it doesn't handle it well, replace it.
You can get a decent Antec PSU for under $60 US, don't know what the prices are over there.

I own two EVGA 7600GT 580/1500. They perform great, very fast cards, and do not require an aditional power supply connector. 7600gt's power off the PCIE slot so that may help you with your power dilema.
Imay be pleading ignorance here, but I have no idea what 40L means? On the other hand, I am a fan of Price Charles. Contrary to any negative comments you may have in return, I love the ears. 8O
All right. I can see by gthe picture the card does indeed have the original fan and heatsink. There is no way of knowing if the BIOS on that card has been flashed and if so correctly flashed. In addition, there is no way of knowin if that card has been overclocked and run hot. I will say that I doubt if you will have any problem like that. The 7600GT is a good choice by what your describing your needs are. My son uses two 7600GT's 580/1500 in SLI and it pretty much flys through his gaming repitoire.
Hey, tanks. Keep up the good work defeating France every so often over there.
Never had a good experience on ebay. I'd never buy that expensive of a component without a vendor to return it to. Usually ebay returns have to happen within a week when 30 days isn't enough. Order online through an etailer, it might even be less than whatever final cost of that thing is. You'll get better support and a branded card that will have extended support from the manufacturer. Not so with an OEM card. Beware of shipping and handling costs as well. It just seems odd to me that a vendor can ship an LCD monitor for $10-$15 but on ebay it'll be upwards of $50 for the same product and there's no extra packaging included from ebay for the cost.
Thanks for the reply, here are what I consider to be the best options, including tax, not including postage. All cards are 256Mb:
BFG 7900GT OC @ overclockers.co.uk = £184.42
Sony OEM 7600GT card @ eBay = £41 at the moment, but could go up.
Leadtek 7600GT card @ scan.co.uk = £113.43
HIS Excalibur x1800GTO @ overclockers.co.uk = £140.94
Connect3D x1800XT = £160.92
Just to give you guys some kind of idea of what I'm talking about in US$, the 7900 is $336, the leadtek 7600 is $207, the HIS x1800GTO is $247 and the Connect3D x1800XT is $293.
Forgetting the eBay card, look at the price gaps, it's about £20 each time, from the 7600GT, then the x1800GTO, the x1800XT then the 7900GT at the top of the price range. Is the XT that much better than the GTO? I don't want to buy another duff ATi card, £20 extra is better than £140 wasted on a card that's already outdated because it's been crippled to meet a price range.
I don't feel that the amount of PC gaming I do justifies the price of a 7900GT. It's either 7600GT, x1800GTO or x1800XT...
Don't forget...just 350W.

You bought two 7800GTs for video editing? :?
I play everything at 1680x1050 with 4xAA 16xAF, and my 7800GTs are at 470MHz core 1.2GHz memory.
Get the 7600GT it runs off motherboard power, no additional power connector is even on the board. Look for EVGA if you can, they have lifetime warranty on their cards. See if you can find this 256-P2-N554-AX
called 7600GT KO, clocked higher than standard and has better cooling.
I've been told by those in the know that SLI has absolutely no effect on video editing, photo editing or just about any other 2D app. Only in 3D games and only then. So in 2D mode only one card is used, those folks would be better off with one card that had more memory provided the chipsets are close in specs.
After recent experiences with Leadtek USA policies I'd never buy a Leadtek graphics card again.

Well, I might say the same thing. You bought two 7800GT's to play games? There is nothing wrong with that ey. My screen is also wide screen 1680 x 1050. Very pleased with the Viewsonic. The 7800GT is better than I expected. I originally replaced an ASUS 5950 Ultra with it.
I'm using the 9.1.3.1 drivers with SLI. I've managed to adjust the settings to my liking and the cards are stable and working great. I'm thinking of buying a second screen that will do 1680 x 1050 so my son can play his games on widescreen. He plays at 1600 x 1200 on a Viewsonic CRT with two 7600gt's in SLI. Lately I have ben setting AA at 4 with no AF. Runs really fast that way. I also use 16xAF on my 7800gt's. Me like-ee to watch DVD's there. I have never really tested my cards other than run them hard over at PC Pitstop.
Guess I'll cancel order on that 'vet.
Hmmm well the matter isnt of overclocking well overclock up and roast up your card higher temperatures cannot give the gaming.Well 7600gt can sprew up the performance when antiliasing and anistropic filtering are off but when they are on ATI x1800gto wins up the race 8)
YOU seriosuly would'nt believe it but it is seriously the truth
I bought a used 6800 card for £40. It's cheap and although it won't run next year's games, I just wanna play the games I've already got at some decent settings.
I guess this concludes things here
You be fine. Just don't do anything I wouldn't d

I got an MSI 7600GT from New Egg and I'm not too happy with it.
MSI NX7600GT-T2D256E Geforce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3
New Egg's Item #: N82E16814127095
(doesn't seem to be on there anymore)
MSI's #: MSI 626 913 0828
When MSI's Live Update program runs, I get about 6 suggested updates, but all of them say "not compatible w/ any installed hardware". It came w/ drivers on a CD, but live update still reports "unknown version" for the drivers.
I was able to d/l "forceworks" (I think that's what it's called) from NVIDIA, and that keeps giving me "SLI config has changed, switching to single card mode"... even though I never had a 2nd card or chose any SLI option (althought my MOBO will support SLI if I choose).
I was able to get two monitors running off this card, in different resolutions, w/ different desktop pictures... even w/ the original drivers. But I can't get World of Warcraft to run in 1280x720 mode. The option just doesn't come up. Windows uses that resolution on my 27" widescreen LCD w/ no problem. And I know WoW can run in this resolutin, because it worked just fine on the same monitor w/ my old system which had an NVidia AGP card from about four years ago.
