I have an AD domain with both PCs and Mac OSX clients. I'm testing the more
stringent password requirements that are default in Win2003 Server, but my
Mac clients get a "your password is too darned long" warning if they go
beyond eight characters. Since the recommended/default is ten characters,
this does present a problem :-)

Anyway, I changed the minimum number of password characters to eight and now
my Macs can change their passwords. But the problem is that they must have
EXACTLY eight characters now. I don't really think it's a good idea to
lower the minimum to, say, six, to allow the Macs some variation.

Does anybody here have Mac clients and have any experience with this
situation?

Many thanks,
Mark

Nope, but if that is the case, I think I would contact Apple about it. That is a
security issue in my book.
