.... is NOT COMING SOON.

I was just chatting over 50 minutes by phone (i.e. skype to landline to
conference call) with guys
from AvantGo and they released TOTALLY NEW CLIENTS of AvantGo for all
platforms, including
Pocket PC, it is available here (many improvements):

http://www.avantgo.com/beta2005

but they did not release a client for MS Smartphone! And they said "we are
working on it" but not that they plan it anytime soon.

I kindly ask marketing and other managers at Microsoft to contact Sybase
(makers of AvantGo) and to accelerate the situation.

I am just one person goddamit - I have convinced opera to make browser for
MS Smartphone, and I convinced AppForge to support MS Smartphone in
CrossFire (just got full version and I am reviewing it for Smartphone) and I
convinced tens of thousands of people to buy Windows Mobile phones, but
Sybase/AvantGo needs a little bit support from MS, maybe? Please.

I'd like to see VGA support in the Pocket PC beta client... They are
going to the trouble to refresh it, the least they could do is make it
look nice on VGA screens.

Regards,
Shane.

Personally, I can't say I'm that bothered. AvantGo was good a few years ago
when running it on a PocketPC without GPRS or wi-fi, but (for me at least)
these days if I want to read stuff on the web on the phone I'd rather just
connect directly via GPRS. Even on my iPaq these days I'd rather either use
Bluetooth when I'm at home or in the office, or GPRS via my phone when I'm
on the road.

IMO, AvantGo was an excellent idea at the time, but technology is making it
redundant.

Quite true. With GPRS, Bluetooth & WiFi getting information live is easy.
With Avantgo the info is only as up to date as when you sync. Probably
still OK for some uses, but News, Sport & Weather you can get that in real
time.
