Stupid aol charges $20.00 for the software now!! I need to know how to
connect without the software, but with the access #. I use an axim x5 and a

True, but to be fair, back when it was free, it only did e-mail. Now
it supports a connection to the internet as well.

You can't. AOL uses a non-standard connection method- not the typical
"DUN" (Dial-Up Networking) connection used by most ISPs. Pony up for
the software, or use another ISP. I use www.access4free.com- they
give you 10 hours free each month then $1/hour up to $10, then you get
unlimited use the rest of that month.

I set my AOL mail accounts as IMAP accounts so I don't need AOL's
ridiculous mail software either at home or on my PPC. Since I have
DSL broadband at home (which includes an ISP), I dropped to the
$5/month AOL plan (3 hours a month, but still get 7 email accounts)
long ago. I can't remember the last time I actually connected to AOL
or used the AOL software.
