New to this forum and new to HTPC world. Recently bouthg Gateway GT5056 Media Center PC with following configuration
Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2GB PC3200 RAM
250GB HDD
XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX PCI Express 256MB DDR3 Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI

I'm planning to use this machine with my 30" Sony HDTV. And my main purpose behing buying this machine was to get rid of my Tivo, DVD recorder, along with taking advantage of Media Center features like consolidation of digital media. My main purpose here is to bring my PC on TV screen instead of brining TV on my PC screen. I'm not planning to use it for any kind of gaming.
I need recommendation for TV tuner card which can display HD contents coming from my Time Warner HD cable box along with regular standard definition TV. Also it should allow me to schedule and record shows (replacement for Tivo). I've heard few names like DVICO, AverMedia and ATI HDTV wonder but dont understand what are requirements for using this cards. Is it good to buy USB based solution or PCI based solution for TV tuner card. I'm especially interested in HD contents coming from cable box.

thanks

Thanks all I settled on ATI x800 XL and got rid of nvidia 7600gt from my configuration. My primary purpose is multimedia so 7600 gt was overkill in my case and by going ATI AIW x800 XL route I've tv tuner and video card in same slot. Also I got it for 129 USD from microcenter.com so it was best bang for bucks.

Question : Why you need two graphic cards?
One AGP and One Tuner Card ?

If you dn't use Cable or staelite , do you still need TV tuner card?

My TV don't have DVI , so I guess so all out with S Video?
Any recommendation?

Aw, if I'd have seen this thread earlier I could of replied in time.

Here's a site that has great reviews of tv cards:

I personally have a newbula digi tv card. Absolutely perfect, doesn't have analogue tuning but supports everything digital. It has ace software that allows me to record easily. It even supports streaming tv over a network so my family can watch TV on another computer in another room using this pc's tv card.

may have been overkill but it supports h.264 codec acceleration and the x800xl does not, so no HD video content for you. Might want to try and get your 7600GT back in your box.
