Can someone please answer a few question i have about this processor.

My first question is about purchasing the right processor. I have been told that you have to purchase the Intel Pentium D Processor 805 that has the proper product code. If you look at this link here it has the last 5 code #s circled.

http://images.tomshardware.com/2006/05/10/dual_41_ghz_cores/spec_sticker.jpg

Now Ive been looking at Mwave's and Neweggs websites and the product code ends after the BX80551PE2666FN. I dont see the SL8ZH listed anywhere and have tried calling with no help. Has anyone bought one of these from MWAVE or NEWEGG recently that can verify if the product code once you have the processor box reads BX80551PE2666FNSL8ZH. Or is this a big myth?

2nd

Would this mother board support this processor and would it have any problems with overclocking?

I just recently setup an OC 805 system, got lucky and they sent me an x1900xt while charging me 270euros for a x1800xt 512!

I have an older, coolermaster hyper "something" huge copper heatsink with 120fan. The system is stable at fsb170 (3.4ghz) (idle 46C, load 60C) but wont boot at 180.
I recently bought a 550w jsp psu (see thru with lights and crap) for $50 and I'm afraid it might be the culprit. Also, I hooked up the x1900xt to an hdd type power connector w/adaptor because the PSU didn't have a PCIe connector. I also get this strange phenonenon where my UPS beeps everytime the gpu runs on full load (spellforce2 or bf2 full detail). Normally it only beeps when the power goes out. BTW, the psu has a fan knob, is it dangerous to leave it on mid to low or will the psu fry everything? thing is so noisy at full blast.

finally I have more of a noob problem with my motherboard, asus p5wd2-premium. I can't get the PRI EIDE cable to work.. I hook up two different hdd's and it sees nothing bt my two SATA ones, only driver I found on the CD is marvel RAID... the eide controler is identified as from marvel as well (in the manual) but I don't want RAID.

Anyway, this has the result of forcing me to use my windows PATA Hdd while sharing the controller with the DVDR as master.. ie, load times crawl, in bf2 I have to walk through the level once with the hard disk chugging and killing the frame rate no after that it's smooth as butter...(my p3 400 w/RIVA TNT used to do that on UT 1999; the more things change, the more they stay the same).
I'm waiting for a new case to change the hdd to master (cable lenghts) but what about that other controller?

any help ironing out these last niggles (did I mention Im broke) will be appreciated, I imagine some other noobs might have similar problems.

I have a similar board and you might need to install drivers for those non SATA drives to be connected. Like on my mobo I have 1 ide connector (blue) and 2 other ones (red). Once the drivers are installed the 2 red connectors will now work, they only support hard drives though, with optical there is a weird glitch and it tries a work around of sorts and makes them look like scsi devices in my device manager, really weird, so all optical drives had to stay on my blue ide connector. Your issue may be along the same line.

Yep, it's true at least from ZipZoomFly

I dunno I'm no expert, but that's better than what I'm getting with a wc system. I am about 58c under full load. I can run at 3.8, but my scores are lower than at 3.6 prob because the chip is throttling down. Not sure if I have a weak ocing chip or if it the link between the computer and keyboard (me). At 3.8 at .14 volts the chip hits about 64c, usally, if the temp goes to any higher I usally crash.
I am going to keep the chip at 3.6 and read more on this voodoo science. At 3.6 the temps are low and the performance is acceptable.

Ummm....with a water cooled system you should be getting way better than that! My Zalman CNPS9500LED-CU gets me a nice 30c-40c at idle depending on room temps, and it has never gone above 60c at full load running both cores maxed out! So yeah, you should be doing way better than air cooled! Oh, and if you're wondering I don't have much in the way of any kind of air conditioning (so it gets really hot in my place!), and this does effect my temps!

My System Specs:
Intel Pentium D 805 (BX80551PE2666FNSL8ZH) @ 3.8GHz
OCZ OCZ28002048ELDCGE-K 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 (running in Dual Channel) @ 760MHz

I've been reading the forums and some of you have purchased the GA-8N-SLI motherboard. I've read some reviews on newegg stating that the CPU FSB could not be overclocked, but rather the DDR FSB.

I'm green on the topic. Does this matter? Don't you need to overclock the CPU FSB? Is there a firmware update that addresses this? Does it matter at all? I'm interested in the gigabyte as the price is right, and i've had good success with Gigabyte in the past. It sounds like people have OC'd this board to pretty good speeds.

For those of you that have purchased this board, did the DDR2-800 memory work or did you go down to 667 or 533?

What voltage are you running though mate ?

Am on water and my stats @ 3.8 are:

IDLE: 45c
FULL LOAD: 59c.
vcore @ 1.5v

how long are you running the load test for ???

hmmm bizarre ... am using AI booster to monitor my usage and temps.

The CPU Utilization aint working now and it's only showing one CPU ?

Anyone else experiencing this bug ???

Rightmark - no problems

Gents what going on with this :

I purchase Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX

When i use CPU-Z its only showing: Single Channel.

I thought my ram was dual channel. ??

Anyone got any ideas ?

Also what timings do i need to use ??

ok ... am running 4G @ 1.5625 vcore.

XP boots fine ... and appears to be functioning OK.

When i am running Prime.

I keep getting a error on one of the instances.

Here is a screeny ..

Usually when memory is only running single channel its because the 2nd DIMM is in the wrong slot. Make sure they aren't side by side. Usually a slot in between is correct, one on each channel for dual channel.

When my CPU was only showing as one, it was a corrupt Windows installation. Reformat solved it for me.

This is a work in progress. Only the water cooling 4.0 and 4.1GHz links are done, but have a look and let me know what you guys think. :-)

Well I was running to separate instances of Prim95 on the torture test setting, so both my cores were maxed at 100% utilization...and I just kept running the test until my CPU temp stabilized...and then ran them for a while longer to see if there was any change, but there wasn't. Haven't tried like running for several hours and just walking away yet. At idle my CPU temp varies depending on my room temp. Last night when it was nice and cool in here my CP was around 28c. but right now it's more like 40c...it is a little hot in here right now. But yeah, if I'm getting 40c with just air cooling in an warm room, you should be able to get better than that with water. Oh, and yes I'm also running at my vcore at 1.5v, anything less and you get some stability issues.
