PC Clone - 1.4 Pentium 4 - 500 MB Ram
WIN 98 SE
S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR [Display adapter]
Only network is to Comcast ISP
I scandisk and defrag regularly
Use Kasperky AV and it's up to date

I get on the morning and my computer is fine
When I come home at night - it's been on all day - the display is
agonizingly slow. It gets worse as I work. I finally have to reboot as
the letters echo to the sceen go so slowly.
What is the matter here?
I apologize if this is a duplicate posting couldn't seem to fine the
one I put on here an hour ago.

Many thanks - Donna

It sounds like a memory leak.

This is the tactic usually used by internet hackers when they wish to
bring down a machine (they get access to the computer and insert a
program that uses up all the resources), however it may simply be one of
the programs you are using that is not functioning correctly and using
up more and more resources untill your computer is too slow for you to
even type in it in real time.

To help against hackers, installing the proper security patches from
Microsoft Internet Update should help. You actually have to just install
those that patch up the network driver security leaks, but if you want
to keep things simple just install all the recomended ones.

If it's not hackers, then it may be one of your programs. I suggest
checking for this first since it saves you the trouble. What programs
are running on your computer all the time? If you have anything like
Kazaa then it is reasonable, since I know that program leaks,
particulary the cracked variety. Note that when you find the program
causing you problems you will have to discontinue using it to stop the
error from happening again.
