Where is the list of applications for untyped files?

This really doesn't address your post but you would probably find a
program named FastExplorer useful. Basically, it lets you easily set up
your own right click context menu entries for any file type, for
folders, for all files, etc. The entries can be nested. That means you
could easily use any of many apps to open a file of a particular type.
For example, if I right click an MP3 the context menu has an entry for
"MP3" which expands into a list of 12 apps, any of which I can use to
open the file.

It's a very handy program; definitely one of my most used. More info in
