That still does not answer the question. Will you spend an entire weeks worth on the cpu upgrade? Two weeks? Half a week?

are u living alone? or is that a part time "get stuff" job? and what's wrong with a 3200+? theres many ppl with celerons out there so be grateful lol? i dindt say semprons because semprons kick celeron ass!

well im asking because for some reason i have lag when playing fear or bf2. i dont know if its my video card or my processor

video card>evga 7600gt

How much RAM do you have? Also, what settings are you running FEAR and BF2 on?

You could go for an Opteron 165 939, but since we have no idea what your budget is, it's hard to recommend a CPU for you.

Reply to Ian

fear is not cpu bottlenecked its gpu 100%. a 7600 can do 1024x768 max. dont push it too far. ihate it when ppl think they can do 1280x1024 max just cus they spent "xxx" money. tweak your settings a bit. i play fear at max 1024x768 with 60fps avg

Value select CORSAIR 1gb pc 3200 400mhz

Im running fear on maximum settings but with only 1024x768 resolution

but im running bf2 online at high every thing but no AA and 800x600.

Off line it runs fine. on every thing on high and AA all the way up 1024x768.

Reply to w619

for bf2 could be server lag. try cleaning out unnecesarry background processes

I have every thing shut off but bf2. and the funny thing is my fathers cpu had no lag running at same settings and he has a 5700ve video card and 3.2 ghz intel cpu. So i know its not the server. And i have been having problems with older games freezing up for 3 min at a time.

What's the temp of your CPU when gaming? You really Shouldn't be getting any lag, even on busy 64 player servers, and you should be able to play it on medium-high settings, almost max if you had more ram. Something is definately wrong with your comp.

Reply to Ian

are u overclocking? wat motherboard do you have? perhaps its system instability. i suspect crappy psu.

Maybe it could be my cooling but not my powersupply {500watt}

I only have 2 fans blowing out air and my psu is blowing in air.
DONT ASK I had help builing this computer.

Mother board is a ASUS A8N-VM mATX

Reply to w619

Well you found it. The psu. ITs blowing IN hot air right over the cpu.

my temp is running at 45.5' C

And i dont overclock

MORE RAM !!!!!!!!

-2Gb

your good

And those can be any where from +or - 10 or more. and it may not be just the cpu that is getting to hot form it blowing in to the case. THe ram video card ect. YOu might also try a mem test to see if the memory is any good.

K then i will buy more ram.

since i have a gig of pc3200 can i put another stick of that to make 2 gigs or do i need to buy 2 gigs of dual ram.

Buying more memory isn't a solution. Something is terribly wrong with your comp. I have built 6 comps in the last 6 months, 4 of them with 3200+ A64, and 1 gig of ram, with varying video cards (6600, 6200 turbocache, 7600GT). All of them can play BF2 without any lag, as long as the graphic settings are right for the card. ie the cpu isn't making any lag, and the 1 gig of ram doesn't matter THAT much. If you turn your settings up to medium-high, then yes, you may need more then 1 gig of ram. However, in your case, you have a problem that isnt related to the amount of ram you have, because you say you get lag even on 800x600 and no AA of AF.

Don't waste your money on RAM until you figure out what the problem is.

Then what should i do.

dont have backround things running -aim or whatever

and i had to overclock my 3200+ to get good frame rate becuase it wasnt cutting it for BF2

i set to 2.2 ghz and things smoothed out , i have it at 2.4ghz right now =]

but i would go with a better video card

6800gs would be awsome to run medium-high settings

but i could be wrong

Buying more memory CANT hurt anything. Some of these things are pretty ram hungry.

You have a 1G stick now? Adding another can't be to much more.

FYI, DDR is better (and your mb supports it), but since you already have 1 stick, I don't know if it's worth it to replace it...

I agree with illicitsc, have you tried "cutting back" on some of the eye candy? A lot of people have problems with fear, it's pretty harsh on the rigs. Great game though, I bought it just this past week...

Shut off your virus scan software while you are playing as well...

I also forgot IS it at idle that u get that temp of 45 or is that under load. DL prime95 and run the stress test. IF it is a heat prob/cpu or even ram it will have errors or simply crash. And give us the temp when running that cause that will get u to max temp.

7600 GT is better then 6800 GS by far.

i dont know if this is possible but i installed the newest directX9 up to date by going through windows update and it seem to fix the problem.
In other words i have alot less lag.

Reply to w619

Good, I hoped that fixed your problem. I was going to suggest not upgrading cpu until the new socket comes out. 3200+ should be fine for now--with a modest overclock of course. :)

Yes get a beefy processor, but get more RAM and a nice GPU like the X1800XT or 7900 GT, but I would recommend you get a card with 512 because the new tomb radier requires a 512 MB GPU to run it a high res.
Oh! by the way I added 2gigsof RAM and bf2 runs so smooth.
Asus AN8 SLI Premium
Athlon 64 X2 4400+
2Gigs Corsair XMS
X1900XT 512 MB formerly 7800 GT
Creative XFi
250 Gig HD
550 watt PSU
