I am looking for a new monitor and ebay seems to have new and slightly used ones for super-duper cheap lately... I see a lot of NEC/Mitsu Diamondtrons 22" and Dell/Compaq Trinitrons 22" for about the same prices on there. Both handle 20x16 resoltions pretty well with 75 -80 hz refreshrates on there.

My question is, Witch tube would be the better choise? There isnt much on the web comparing them. I am upgrading for a 19" Viewsonic that is crapping out on me... I figured I would get sothing larger with a better picture..

Been using Mitsubishi Diamondtrons forever. Fantastic displays.

Diamondtron is simply a rebranded version of Trinitron, originally developed by Sony. I have a NEC FE1250+ I got off eBay for $180, and it's awsome, run it at 85hrz, 1280x1024.

So they are basically the same thing? That dell 22" Trinitron looks great!

Yup, not sure if it's just me but the support wires on my 22" look much less noticable than on my 2 sony 17"'s. Could just be an optical illusion with the size difference though. And NEC electronics are MUCH more stable than sony, sony sucks. There I said it, rain hell on me....

Maybe not quite right. Though they are similar, they are different in design, ie, i can not remember exactly, one is something called "one gun with three laser", another is " three for three". So, trinitron usually is more vivid for color, while diamondtron is usually good for text and more natural. I personal prefer diamondtron over trinitron, 'cause I read a lot on screen. All in all, they are both very good.

I think what's really "needed and wanted" is the awesome performance of the rear projection (skinny front-to-bacl dimension) TI DLP tech applied to the 20"+ PC monitor market. DLP puts all CRT and LCD tech in the weeds regarding analog and digital graphics display :)

I'm currently looking for a CRT monitor for molecular modeling in stereoscopic 3D. Are trinitron and diamondtron monitors the best for this? Are there any LCD or DLP solutions that can be used with full stereo glasses? Thanks in advance!
