dude, he said 50% as speculation, and basicaly guaranteed means that it is like almost guaranteed, in other words the manufacturer did not actually guarantee it to be flashable, what he meant was that the success rates of such modifications is so high that it is practically guaranteed.

*** SEPTEMBER 6, 2006 CHANGES ***

Wow, alot of sweeping changes this update:

- Removed X1800 XT because the prices have skyrocketed
- In it's place in the ~$200 PCIe category is the new 7900 GS
- Included the new AGP version of the 7600 GT as top dog in AGP

Nvidia is pricing agressively and taking alot of the categories, looking good!

Ati had better concentrate on keeping the X1900 GT prices down to compete with the 7900 GS - I can't find X1900 GTs for less than $250 now, can't recommend them at that price with the 7900 GS so cheap.

And their upcoming X1650 XT had better be competitive with the 7600 GT if they want to stay in the mainstream game.
The soon-to-arrive X1300 XT and X1650 PRO look to be very good for the price though.

and that quick the chart goes from ati-heavy to Nv-heavy... wonder if anyone will get on here and accuse you of Nv-favoritism like the previous ati slamming. lol ;)

weird though on the ati price-hikes. Wonder what's going on there? all of the ati cards that I looked at are higher. The 1900xt is even higher in most cases than some 1900xtx models! Strange that prices are climbing w/ them and Nv releasing new stuff...

...strange things are afoot at the circle-K

Agreed--WTF are those folks at ATI thinking? Shouldn't prices DROP just prior to new releases, not RISE? Did we miss something? Does AMD have anything to do with this somehow? Just seems kinda weird to me...

*** SEPTEMBER 6, 2006 CHANGE ***

Due to the wise advice of Anoobis and Angry Ducky, I've added the 7300 GT GDDR3 version to the sub-$100 recommendations

There are more GDDR3 7300 GTs out there than I thought, and they all seem to be clocked 500/700 which is really good, so they deserve the spot. I still hope noone confuses them with the DDR2 versions, hopefully I've made it clear eniough so nobody makes that mistake.

Uhh..Cleeve..big guy?????

Geforce 7300 GT GDDR3
Codename: G73, 90 nanometer technology
8 PixelShaders, 4 VertexShaders, 8 TextureUnits, 8 RasterOpsProcessors
128-bit memory bus
500 Mhz core, 700 Mhz GDDR3 (1000 Mhz Effective) Memory

Shouldn't that read 1400?

I can't speak for Angry Ducky, but I don't give out wise advice, just advice. :)

EDIT: A new (or old) AGP card under $150: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102606

I doubt it'll be available for long, heck an x850 AGP for under $150, but thought I'd mention it.

The X1900XT 256MB is available for 240$ on newegg. I guess it's a better choice than a 7900GT for 270$.

The X1900XTX can be found for between 300 and 330$ on newegg.

*** September 17th changes ***

- Added new X1900 XT 256mb in ~$250 segment. Zing!

- Added 7950 GX2 as best $500 card. Prices are reasonable and it's really quite good at very high resolutions w/AA compared to any single card

Not saying that that's wrong, but i bought an ATi X1800XT 256MB from newegg yesterday for $206. it's weird when they don't have it in stock you can't even see it on the website, but then every once in a while it appears. i guess you just have to hunt for it

Also, I picked it over the MSI 7900GT which was $230 (after a $40 rebate i think).

So i guess the moral of the story is hunt for bargains and you can get better price/performance than the "average" best.

I wonder... where does the AIW 1900 sit within all of this? It has slower clocks than the 1900xt versions (500/480 core/mem) and even the 1900gt is faster at 575/600... but the AIW has the full 48 shaders of the xt/xtx cards, and it is right at that ~$200 mark of the 7900gs on newegg. I remember the AIW 1900 performing equal to and above the 7800gt... really would be interesting that if it gets similar performance (w/ the new cat drivers) to the 7900gs (plus the better IQ) at the same price, and you get the tuner, remote, and all breakout boxes that would be a sweet deal indeed.

things that make you go hmm... ;)

Reply to sojrner

the x1900aiw is on par with 7800gtx, 7900gt, x1900gt, and x1800xt

which seems to be that it would be better than a 7900gs... for the same price w/ more "stuff", yes?

Reply to sojrner

7900gs is a faster 7800gt

which is why my brain was musing about the wisdom of getting it when the AIW 1900 was the same price... ;)

I cannot find any 7600GT "AGP" cards currently, newegg doesn't have them listed at all now it seems. Unfortunately, they may need a break from the list.

Also, the (EDIT!) $420 PCI x16 champion would HAVE to be the Radeon X1950XTX at this time, would it not?

Whenever you update the page, just quick check newegg to see if those AGP-flavored 7600GTs are back in stock...

my gf 6600 PCI-e is getting old... but i still love it! but a gf7600gt would be nice :)

7600gt agp... out of stock but still listed. ;)

EDIT: pretty scary though when my powercolor 1900xt retail is still $415, and the retail powercolor 1950xtx is $439! Strange things are afoot at the newegg... :?

You could Ebay your 6600 PCI-E and get this.

hey i would like to make a recommendation, for the sub $100 or $150 pcie catagory,
i recently stumbled upon some benchmarks for the 7300gt with 256mb of ddr3 ram,you can get it in the uk for 70 pounds on dabs.com it scores around 5000 3dmark05 points and performs near or better than a 7600gs

http://www.ausfx.com/reviews/NVIDIA/Inno3D7300GT.php

http://thinktechno.com/modules/art [...] d=4&page=4

it overclocks well to,i would say the only downfall is possibly availability,as such i have only definatley seen it on dabs.com
i recently bought one from savastore, turns out i got the ddr2 version.on stock (400/800) it gets 3500 3dmark05 points wich is quite a bit less.i overclocked mine to see what it can do and at 620 core 880 memory it got 4500 points, just on the stock cooler (with AS ceramique remount)

really sad to be quoting myself but its just to show you all that i said the 7300gt was awesome in july!!!

It's a good budget card. It's really only worth getting if it has GDDR3.

Reply to kaotao

yeah the faster ram is a big boost. theyre good for overclocking on a budget too

The GDDR3 versions I've seen also come with a faster core.

Reply to kaotao

That's the cheapest 6600 GTs have ever been, but the GDDR3 7300 GT or X800 GTO is still much faster.

*** SEPTEMBER 26 UPDATES ***

- Added X1650 PRO to AGP recommendations (newly available)
- Removed X1600 and 6600 GT from AGP recommendations (7600 GS and X1650 prices are ~$130)
- Added 7900 GTX to PCIe recommendations (prices seem to have come down a bit)
- Added X700 to AGP recommendations (noticed cheap price, good 6600 competition)

Does anyone know where I can get a 7300 GT 256MB DDR3 for under $100 on the State side? I've seen it in a UK store but idk if they ship to the US.

Thanks, Timmay

-=----------

Incase the GDDR3 is not for sale in the US, would any one recomend the GDDR2 models? I'm looking to play BF2 on my Dell (3ghz p4 w/ ht, 2gb ddr2)

thnx, timmay

Here you go mate:

Looks like they're out of stock at the moment, unfortunately...

Here's one at tigerdirect for $115, in stock:

If you don't like spending over $100, get the X800 GTO... :P

Here's something strange... I looked up the card from ncix.com and I found it at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121021) but Newegg says it's a GDDR2 while ncix.com says it's GDDR3? can anyone make heads or tails of this?

yo guyz, i got an X700pro and i've overclocked it, all i have to say is WOW! it performes like an X700XT, and even better because of the core overclock. buy a cheap card like i did and OVERCLOCK!!!! :P

Reply to BigCharb

You might like to look at the 7900 GTO now, it clocks to the same speed as the GTX, for $250.

Reply to Granite3

Not exactly. Some cards do, some don't. Luck of the draw. But if you are into the OC'ing thing, you can't go wrong with the 7900GTO.

Though, if Oblivion is your game, the X1900XT 256MB will still clean house as it even beats the 7900GTX. Here.

If it's Doom3, Quake4 or the such, then the 7900GTO takes the cake.

Reply to purdueguy

Well today is the 17 of october and the new ati 1950pro should come out today. they are a bit slower then the x1900xt. the price is around 270$

if you have 2 of them in crossfire it would be a %$#@ good system

Reply to laurensxeon

who in the right mind would crossfire two midrange cards?
